Stories from the Archives: The Early Years of the Village of McMurray

Over 26,000 vehicles pass through the busy intersection of McMurray/Valley Brook Road every day. Learn how this area developed from a grist mill in the 1800s to a general store, post office, telephone company, and creamery in the 1900s. Stories from the Archives: The Early Years of the Village of McMurray will be presented virtually on Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. Staff members Margaret Deitzer and Carrie Weaver will share historical materials from the PTPL Archives. They will discuss the early development of the Village of McMurray into a thriving manufacturing and commercial center of Peters Township.

Make a Mug Workshop

Learn how to design and produce your own custom designed Valentine’s Day mug using a Cricut machine and infusible ink. Participants will get to take home one mug each. Due to the equipment used, this program is limited to adult patrons only. Registration is required. Limited to 4 adult participants. We highly recommend masks for in-person programs.

The Strangest Season with Author Jim O'Brien

The Coronavirus pandemic hit hard and affected every aspect of our lives, from sports to politics and religion. Local author Jim O'Brien will share stories about Pittsburgh, Western Pennsylvania, national figures and events, and how the healthcare, hospitalizations, and deaths impacted and forever changed the world of sports. Copies of his book The Strangest Season - The Pittsburgh Scene 2020-2021 will be available for purchase at this program. Registration is required to attend this program.

This is the second session of a two-part class. Monday, Feb. 28 and Thursday, March 3, 6 to 8 p.m.

Intro to Online Geneaology Research

Curious about where to start researching your family history? The library has several online genealogy resources to help you with your search. IT Librarian Brandon Priddy will discuss using Ancestry Library, Heritage Quest, and Family Search. Registration is required to receive the Zoom meeting invitation. Limited to 15 participants. REGISTER using the button below. You will be emailed the Zoom meeting invitation one business day before the class.  Participants must be registered at least 1 hour before the program begins to receive the Zoom Link.

Tween Maker Monday

Grades 4 to 6
Maker spaces are collaborative spaces where students can gather, get creative with DIY projects, and invent new ones while sharing ideas. Decompress after school by hanging out with friends in this student-led creative time. Each month Ms. Linda will feature something different. Snacks included! Registration is required. Limited to 10 participants. Masks are highly recommended at in-person programs.
