Please join the wonderful teachers from the PopUp Art School as they teach tweens and teens how to make a painting of the night sky.
They will lead you step-by-step to create a star-filled night sky with silhouettes of a hillside and trees. It’s amazing what you can create with four colors and some easy brush techniques!

Speaker Event: Ty Burr

Friends of Library Speaker Series: Ty Burr, American film critic, columnist, and author who writes for The Boston Globe will speak this evening on the recently awarded Oscars.

Ty Burr is a member of the National Society of Film Critics and the Boston Society of Film Critics. He also teaches courses in film and criticism at Boston University and Emerson College. In 2017, he was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prise in Criticism.

This event is free and open to the public, and is sponsored by the Friends Division of RML Foundation.

Light refreshments will be available.

Sharks! Awareness Inspires Conservation

Marianne Long, formerly from Rockland and now Education Director for the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy, a nonprofit research and educational organization, will present ongoing white shark research projects and explain how that research is impacting conservation and public safety efforts. AWSC’s Sharktivity app is used by officials from Cape Cod and South Shore towns to raise awareness of the presence of sharks off our coast.

Audience members will have an opportunity to view videos and photographs captured during the research season and learn what a shark is and what it takes to conduct white shark research. A short question and answer period will follow.

Parents can chat together, children can engage in toys-music-and manipulatives together, and everyone will have some FUN!!!

The Playgroup will run for approximately 45 minutes and will include a various number of alternating science topics each month...such as color experiments, animals, science guessing games, songs, related art projects, movement with scarves, literature connection stories, free play, etc...  Activities are geared for 2.9 - 4 year olds.

Tom's lively songs and tunes on the guitar, banjo, tin whistle, mandolin, Irish drum and African thumb piano will introduce youngsters to music from Scotland, Spain, East Africa, Ireland, Italy and the U.S. Debbie's enchanting magic illusions will involve all with some storybook characters from these magical and musical lands.
