Application ~ Agreement ~ Release

Applicants must reside on the East End of Long Island and must be at least 16 years of age.

Registration and payment will be accepted February 1, 2019 - March 15, 2019

Entries must not exceed 26” x 28”.          

A title for the piece and the medium must be submitted with the entry.

A maximum of three (3) entries per artist with a $10.00 per piece entry fee will be accepted.

Jury Process: 

Wednesday, March 20, 2019:  Drop off artwork between Noon-6:00pm in the Rogers Memorial Library’s Morris Meeting Room. 

Thursday, March 21, 2019: Judging will take place and winners will be notified.

Friday, March 22, 2019:  Artists whose work is not selected will pick up their piece(s).

In consideration of my permitting my property to be exhibited at the Rogers Memorial Library, I hereby agree that neither the library nor its trustees, agents or employees shall be liable for:  (1) any theft or damage, by whomever or however caused, or failure to exhibit, store, move or remove said property; or (2) any injury which I or others may sustain to any degree attributable to, or in any way relative to, the exhibition.

I represent that the exhibition of my property is not prohibited or restricted in any way, and that title to said property shall not be transferred before its removal from the Library.  I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Library, its Trustees, agents, and employees concerning any claim or action against any of them related in any matter to my property and/or its exhibition.

I expressly authorize the depiction of my exhibit on postcards to be distributed by the Library; I release and convey to the Library all right, title and interest I may have in my property to the Library for the purpose of creating such postcards.

Hours for Exhibit:

Shall be the regular hours of the Rogers Memorial Library.

Library Security:

The Rogers Memorial Library will take every precaution in order to protect the property of the artists but is not responsible for the security of displayed items.  All items are understood and acknowledged to be displayed at the exhibitor’s risk.

Liability:

The Rogers Memorial Library is relieved of all liability for mutilation or damage or loss of exhibit from any cause whatsoever.  Should the exhibitor determine that the display warrants insurance coverage, it is the sole responsibility of the exhibitor to secure such insurance coverage.

Advanced Writing: Creative Non-Fiction with Kara Westerman

This is an ongoing advanced writing class for writers who have been writing for a number of years and are ready to go to the next level. We will explore personal essay, memoir and other types of creative non-fiction. This workshop will include rigorous critique to aid in editing, revision and rewriting. Through writing exercises using different authors' work as inspiration, we will explore craft, structure, and point of view. Using weekly writing prompts, participants will incorporate craft techniques for more polished writing. Size limit: 6 minimum, 12 maximum. Fee: $80. Advance online registration and payment required.

What was “right” about the Right whale? When was the first recorded whale hunt in Southampton? What was whaling’s importance for the fashion industry? How was a whale’s blubber useful to the whale? To the American consumer? Connor Flanagan, Director of Education at the Southampton History Museum, has looked into every aspect of the industry that started in Southampton in the 17th century and boomed in the 19th. He will answer these questions and more in his presentation focusing on the hunters and the hunted in the great whaling adventure.
