Author Event: Storied Bars of New York
Author Talk: Storied Bars of New York: Where Literary Luminaries Go to Drink by Delia Cabe
Join us for a lively evening with author Delia Cabe as she discusses her book Storied Bars of New York  which is packed with fascinating tidbits about New York’s favorite writers from the 20th century to today.
For as long as there have been bars in New York City, writers have congregated in their local watering holes to fight writer’s block, find inspiration, and mostly, to drink. In this visual and historical celebration of New York’s spirited literary past, Delia Cabe offers a fascinating field guide to all the best writerly taverns and bookish watering holes in New York City.
In keeping with the spirit of the book, Mocktails will be served.
Books will be available for sale and signing.

Emptying the Oceans: A Summary of Industrial Whaling in the 20th Century

Late 19th century technological advances for capturing whales, when combined with the expansion of processing capabilities in the early 20th century, created an industry that could catch and quickly render virtually any whale in any ocean. Using the current International Whaling Commission (IWC) database and other sources, Mr. Rocha provides the first accounting of the total global catch by industrial whaling operations in the 20th century. Please join us for this educational event.

Join us for a narrated, gripping slide presentation that puts the audience right in the middle of the story and events.

In this multimedia presentation based on his recently published book, New York Times bestselling author Michael J. Tougias first chronicles the thirteen harrowing days of the Cuban Missile Crisis and then outlines the steps President Kennedy made to reach a decision on a course of action.

This unique presentation entertains with the dramatic chronicling of the Cuban Missile Crisis (with slides) while providing useful analysis of JFK’s process of tackling major decisions in practical ways that others can learn from and adopt.  It’s an especially timely topic today with current tensions with North Korea and Russia.
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Acushnet Public Library.   Books will be available for purchase and signing.
