Night Sky with Roger Menard

Join us as we look to the sky with amateur astronomer Roger Menard. On Monday, April 1 (weather permitting) we will go outside and view some of the objects in the night sky using an 8 inch telescope. Roger Menard is an amateur astronomer and member of Astronomical Society of New England (ASSNE). He has his own small observatory and spends most clear nights observing and photographing the skies. He teaches astronomy for Second Half Life Long Learning.

Due to the very strong winds and heavy cloud cover on February 25 and snow on March 4 we postponed the outside portion of this previously scheduled event.

Please dress appropriately for an outside event. All ages are welcome.

Pastel Paint with Greg Maichack

Registration is required for this event. Sign-up begins Monday, March 11.

Award-winning pastel artist Gregory John Maichack will present a pastel painting workshop designed for sheer beginners to experienced artists.

Imagine using sailboat references and Maichack’s pastel version of Monet’s Impressionist painting,  “Sailboat at Le Petit-Gennevilliers,” to create your own pastel painting.

In this new, highly researched two-hour workshop, you will freely experiment with hundreds of the artist’s professional grade pastels, pastel pencils, and pastel paper, creating a painting in your own style, realistic or Impressionistic. The artist will guide participants through the process with everything they need to know to pastel paint any subject. Expressive and fun, you will quickly learn how easy and direct pastel painting is and as always, all will keep their pastel painting.

This project is supported in part by a grant from the Acushnet Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
