Parenting Class Series

Join us for a discussion on raising a well-rounded and healthy child, and learn tips on how parents can manage it all without losing their cool. Child care and dinner are provided. Registration is required. This series is presented by Brightside Up.

10/1                Nature in the City

The outdoors is a great place to learn.  A small patch of grass, a single tree, a walk to the store or your own backyard are all opportunities to observe nature, to ask open-ended  questions, and conduct experiments to find answers—all opportunities to develop critical thinking skills.  Join us for a hands-on workshop that will help you explore the outdoors with your children.

10/8                Teachable Moments with Vroom

Vroom believes all parents want what’s best for their children. And the things that matter most for healthy brain development, like talking and playing, don’t require more time, money, or stuff. Join us for a discussion on how to turn everyday moments into teachable moments with our your children.

10/15              Finding the “Why” of Your Child’s Behavior

Join us for a discussion on the “why’s” behind your child’s challenging behavior. Often when a child acts out in a certain way it is a way to tell you they have a need to be met. Better understanding why a child is doing something helps you to better respond and stop the behavior.

10/22              Sneaky Sugars

Sugar is an important source of energy in a healthy diet, and can naturally be found in many foods. However it can become a health concern when we eat or drink too many foods with added sugars. Together we will understand the difference between natural and added sugars, how to be a label detective, and compare sugar content of common foods and beverages.

10/29              Stress Management

Join us for a discussion on adult stress management. We will practice simple strategies for you to de-stress with, or without, your child. These strategies are simple enough for you to teach to your child, or to simply use yourself when feeling overwhelmed.
