Opposition to immigration has lead to Brexit and illiberal right-wing parties in Europe.
More information at www.friendsofscpl.org/programs/great-decisions/

The Great Decisions discussion series on foreign policy issues will start on February 5, 2019. We will be meeting every Tuesday in February and March at 9:30 a.m. in the McChesney Room at the Central Branch.  Each meeting is about a different topic, so you may attend any or all of them. The program is free of charge and is sponsored by the national, non-partisan, Foreign Policy Association (www.fpa.org).

The FPA provides a video introducing the main issues, which is played during the first half hour of each meeting. The FPA also publishes a discussion guide, which contains a comprehensive, balanced 10-page review of each topic. The published guide is very helpful, but not mandatory. The guide will be available for purchase (by check only) in mid-January at the Central Library Reference Desk. This web page will be updated to announce the availability of books when they arrive.

Previous members of Great Decisions and interested people will be contacted by e-mail or U.S. mail with details. If you wish to be added to this mailing list please contact one of the following: Fred Eddy – 518-346-1683, FredEddy7@gmail.com or Tony Mogro – 518-374-1377, AMogro@nycap.rr.com.

Read n' Greet Book Club

This months Read n' Greet location is Aperitivo Bistro. Space is limited so register below.

This ain't your mama's bookclub! (Well, actually your mom can come too) We meet once a month to discuss new cutting edge literature in a relaxed environment. We greet, we read, we eat, we drink!

Children of Men by P.D. James Since 1995 no babies have been born, because in that year all males unexpectedly became infertile. Great Britain is ruled by a dictator, and the population is inexorably growing older. Theodore Faron, Oxford historian and, incidentally, cousin of the all-powerful Warden of England, watches in growing despair as society gradually crumbles around him, giving way to strange faiths and cruelties: prison camps, mass organized euthanasia, roving bands of thugs. Then, suddenly, Faron is drawn into the plans of an unlikely group of revolutionaries. His passivity is shattered, and the action begins.

Join us for a discussion of the book Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue.

"Call it a recession novel, or an immigrant tale -- both are true. In 2007, Manhattan-based Cameroonian immigrant Jende Jonga gets a job chauffeuring for Lehman Brothers executive Clark Edwards, easing the financial strain on his family. At first, all goes well, but problems in the Edwards' marriage lead to problems for the Jongas, and when Lehman falls, both families are caught up in the terrible aftermath. The Jongas -- at the bottom of the socio-economic ladder, fearing deportation -- have much more to lose than the wealthy Edwards family, but together provide a perspective on the accessibility (or lack thereof) of the American Dream, as well as a poignant look at globalization and immigrant life."

The Great Decisions discussion series on foreign policy issues will start on February 5, 2019. We will be meeting every Tuesday in February and March at 9:30 a.m. in the McChesney Room at the Central Branch.  Each meeting is about a different topic, so you may attend any or all of them. The FPA provides a video introducing the main issues, which is played during the first half hour of each meeting.

The FPA provides a video introducing the main issues, which is played during the first half hour of each meeting. Great Decisions @ CENTRAL

"The United States and Mexico"
The war on drugs, immigration and trade issues have taxed our relationship.
