This ain't your mama's bookclub! (Well, actually your mom can come too) We meet once a month to discuss new cutting edge literature in a relaxed environment. We greet, we read, we eat, we drink!

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. In a future world where the birth rate has declined, fertile women are rounded up, indoctrinated as "handmaids," and forced to bear children to prominent men. This book was most recently named one of PBS's 100 best-loved novels as part of their soon to air PBS Great American Read series http://www.pbs.org/the-great-american-read/about/show/

When the Emperor was Devine by Julie Otsuka. The debut novel from the PEN/Faulkner AWard Winning author of The Buddha in the Attic. Otsuka researched historical sources and her own grandparents' experiences as background for this spare yet poignant first novel about the  ordeal of a Japanese family sent to an internment camp during World War II.
