If you're a Naruto fan, you'll probably know that their headband in the series, called Hitai-ate (written in Japanese as 額当て, which translates to "forehead protector,") is worn by most ninjas/shinobi, and is engraved with the symbol of their hidden village, to represent where they came from. Pick up a bag at the children's reference desk to make your own! All supplies will be included in bag and they are handed out on a first come, first serve basis. For teens ages 11 – 17.

Join us for a discussion of We Band of Angels by Elizabeth Norman.
New book club members are always welcome. Request a copy of the books online or at any SCPL location.
In the fall of 1941, the Philippines was a gardenia-scented paradise for the American Army and Navy nurses stationed there. War was a distant rumor, life a routine of easy shifts and evenings of dinner and dancing under the stars. On December 8 all that changed, as Japanese bombs rained on American bases in Luzon, and the women's paradise became a fiery hell. Caught in the raging battle, the nurses set up field hospitals in the jungles of Bataan and the tunnels of Corregidor, where they saw the most devastating injuries of war, and suffered the terrors of shells and shrapnel. But the worst was yet to come. As Bataan and Corregidor fell, a few nurses escaped, but most were herded into internment camps enduring three years of fear and starvation. Once liberated, they returned to an America that at first celebrated them, but later refused to honor their leaders with the medals they clearly deserved.

Join us for a discussion of The Barbizon Hotel by Paula Bren.
Read a book of your choice, something new or an old favorite, and come ready to share in a group discussion.
The Barbizon tells the story of New York's most glamorous women-only hotel, and the women-both famous and ordinary-who passed through its doors. World War I had liberated women from home and hearth, setting them on the path to political enfranchisement and gainful employment. Arriving in New York to work in the dazzling new skyscrapers, they did not want to stay in uncomfortable boarding houses; they wanted what men already had-exclusive residential hotels that catered to their needs, with daily maid service, cultural programs, workout rooms, and private dining.
