Query Club/Sewickley Public Library Speakers' Series
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Topics for this meeting:

The Greatest Athlete of All Time by Chris Steffy

and

Margarethe Bergman and the Nazi Olympics by Marilyn Knotts

This year's theme: The Wide World of Sports

Spanning the globe throughout history, the Query Club brings you the constant variety of sports...the thrill of victory... and the agony of defeat...the human drama of athletic competion...
With this year's annual theme of Sports in History, the Query Club celebrates the 2017-2018 season.

Sport is much more than a game. Sport has a unique power to attract, mobilize, and inspire. It is a philosophy of life, exalting and combining into a balanced whole the qualities of a body, will, and mind. Blending physical skill with culture and education, Sport seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example, and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.

Sporting events have played pivotal roles in virtually all societies around the world throughout history. By its very nature, sport is about participation. It is about inclusion and citizenship. Sports provide everyone in a society with some form of a shared story and a shared goal. It stands for human values such as respect for the opponent, acceptance of binding rules, teamwork, and fairness which are essential building blocks for any society in history.
