Crazy 8's Math Club Session 1

Children must be enrolled in Kindergarten through Grade 2

Join Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8s Afterschool Club, where you’ll build stuff, run and jump, make music, make a mess…it’s a totally new kind of math club. Make mischief and memories with activities like Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry, Bouncy Dice and Toilet Paper Olympics. You’ll get to take home some cool gadgets, too!

Please register only once for all 8 weeks. There will be no class on October 31.

Weekly Sessions:

Glow-in-the-Dark Geometry: Make geometric shapes using glowsticks. Lay out the sticks to create mystical repeating patterns. Then flick off the lights to see it all glow!

Bouncy Dice Explosion: Your big chance to throw things because you’re supposed to. Find out the probability of rolling a 2 or a 5 then try to be the winning chip on a giant human Bingo board.

Spy Training: See if you have what it takes to be a spy. You’ll break different codes for clues to find the hidden treasure!

Time of Your Life: What makes you tick? “Be” the hands of an analog clock and discover hidden the math in a digital clock before time runs out!

Crazy Card Club: Crazy 8s isn’t just the name of our club; it’s also a famous card game! Learn how to play it and other fun games using a deck of cards you get to keep!

Flying Marshmallows: Send marshmallows flying through the air using popsicle sticks and rubber bands. Figure out what positions work best, then measure the flight to prove it.

Let’s Get Loud: Experiment with water and straws to create different sounds, then build a working pan flute! After all that, find out exactly how loud you are, down to the numbers.

Toilet Paper Olympics: Bet you never knew sports and toilet paper could go together, huh? Put your Olympian skills to the test in the shot put, long jump, and relay race events.

Session 2!   (Registration will open October 8th)

This program is only for those children who have completed Session One, either currently attending Session 1 or those children who completed Crazy's Session One last spring.

If you are unsure if your child has previously completed Session One, please email Ms. Nicole at hardingn@einetwork.net with your child's full name. Thank you.

Overall: Join Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8s, a totally new kind of math club where you’ll build stuff, toss beach balls, make amazing mazes and more! You’ll have a blast with mischief-making activities like Beach Ball Party, Funny Money and Glow-in-the-Dark City.

Weekly Sessions:

  1. Glow-in-the-Dark City: Take geometry to the next level!  Learn to recognize some important 3-D shapes, then build a giant skyscraper of glowsticks and styrofoam balls. Flick off the lights to see your creations!
  2. Crazy 8s Race: Play a brand new board game: roll dice to travel around a figure 8, and bring on your teammates when numbers match up. See who makes it to 8 x 8 first!
  3. Funny Money: We’ll bet money you’ll love this one! Have fun comparing coins, buying prizes with them, and finally winning them in an extreme version of Rock, Paper, Scissors!
  4. Beach Ball Party: This is a party you won’t want to miss! You’ll use our star-studded beach ball to play volleyball, then go gaga chucking the ball against targets to score points.
  5. Funky Fractals: Get funky with patterns and mazes! Create crazy patterns with wax sticks, and connect them to make a giant version. Then design your own waxy maze to stump your friends.
  6. Walk on the Wild Side: How do ladybugs, crabs and lizards run so fast with all those extra legs? They use math! We’ll run, walk and gallop like animals to learn some fancy footwork.
  7. Super-Cube Shuffle: Math and art collide when you use specially colored cubes to create cool designs. After a round of design copy mania, you’ll be a super-cube pro!
  8. Epic Air Traffic Control: Build your own airport, complete with finger-light airplanes and glowstick runways. Use your math skills to land all the planes without crashing!

Crazy 8's Session 2
