POSTPONED: Wizarding Mystery Night

This Program will be postponed until later this summer!

Check out our other Summer Tween Nights on July 7th & 21st and August 4th & 18th.

Get lost in the world of witchcraft and wizardry with this murder mystery game. Join us at the library as we act out and solve this mystery together!

THE PLOT:

There’s a grand feast tonight at the Toadwort School of Magic and Mayhem. The headmaster, Professor Bumblebee, has invited all the students, teachers, and ghosts together for the presentation of the school’s newest and most powerful artifact, the Philosopher’s Scone — but what is this?

Someone has overcome the magical obstacles guarding the treasure, and pinched the venerable Scone!  Who could have done it? Was it the wayward trio? Was it the ghost Nearly-Noseless Nickie? Or maybe it was — YOU!

Snacks & Spells will be provided.

4th - 8th Graders

Edith Wharton: Between the Sheets and the (Pages)

Edith Wharton was a keen observer of society in tightly corseted New York of Gilded Age. Taking one step outside these social strictures could render even someone from the oldest and wealthiest families an outcast. Wharton (1862-1937) is one of America’s finest novelists, and her works (which include “The Age of Innocence,” “The House of Mirth,” and “Ethan Frome”) continue to be widely read today.

On June 30 at 6:00pm, the SFL in collaboration with Gloucester Stage Company, will explore some of the lesser known aspects of Wharton’s life, including her passionate affair with Morton Fullerton in Paris. Playwright Anne Undeland, author of BETWEEN THE SHEETS will discuss the correspondence between Wharton and Fullerton (discovered after Wharton’s death) that inspired her play, and Prof. M.M. Dawley of B.U. will discuss Wharton’s work, and how, under the surface, the Gilded Age (and Wharton herself) were not all that innocent. Actors from Gloucester Stage Company will present a scene from BETWEEN THE SHEETS, set to open July 1. Light refreshments will be offered afterwards in the Library’s amphitheater.
