In Facing the Mountain, author Daniel James Brown tells the unforgettable story of the Japanese-American men who volunteered for the US Army's 442nd Regimental Combat Team and displayed incredible courage on the brutal battlefields of Europe. Yet at the same time, their parents were put in camps and stripped of their livelihoods, and an equally brave battle was being fought in the courtroom back home.  This book reveals the all too common failure of democratic ideals in a time of crisis.  Peter Kiang, director of U Mass Boston's Asian American Studies Program  will join us to discuss this phenomena as well as the history of Asian-American prejudice on the Eastern seaboard.

***Weather permitting will be meeting at the Sawyer Free Library Amphitheater! Dress accordingly! Register here and your will recieve email updates! If weather is inclement, we will be meeting via Zoom, so please remember to REGISTER!***

 

Join us for our Cooking Club at Sawyer Free Library! Each month we have a theme and check out a coinciding cookbook available at the Main Desk. Everyone chooses a recipe from that month's theme, makes and brings it in while we share and discuss the process.

THIS MONTH'S THEME: YOUR Thanksgiving Traditions! 

For November, we will making something from your own Thanksgiving table! There will cookbooks available for check out if you need inspiration!

***We ask that when you choose a recipe that you email mmartin@sawyerfreelibrary.org so everyone can make something different***

Come prepared with your appetite! We'll discuss the recipes, pros and cons of the cookbooks/recipes, what worked or didn't in the preparation,cooking, etc.
