Civic Hub: Gender Equality and Respect for All

The Gender Equality and Respect for All program concerns all people: men, women, gays, lesbians, bisexuals and trans-genders as all human beings contain within themselves the duality of the Active, or masculine and Receptive, or feminine energies. For centuries, the nefative aspect of the Active force has been predominant in the world, causing an imbalance for results in disrespect for women, ruthless business practices and armed conflicts, just to give a few examples. It istime for the scale to level out.

Drawing on yoga techings, gender studies and reasings on the women's movement, Maria's approach brings increased awareness of the duality within all humanbeings and how we can make a difference.

Civics and Civility: Depolarizing Climate Change

Ellen Moyer, Ph.D. will speak about how an issue that affects us all –  climate change - came to be so polarizing. She’ll focus on ways to overcome this divisiveness so we can more effectively protect our climate and upgrade to a happier, healthier, and more prosperous way of life.

Dr. Ellen Moyer is an environmental consultant and registered professional engineer with a BA in anthropology, MS in environmental engineering, and PhD in civil engineering. She assesses and cleans up contaminated soil and groundwater and develops sustainable solutions that promote environmental and human health. Adult Book Group : Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson

In Furiously Happy, #1 New York Times bestselling author Jenny Lawson explores her lifelong battle with mental illness. A hysterical, ridiculous book about crippling depression and anxiety? That sounds like a terrible idea. But terrible ideas are what Jenny does best.As Jenny says: "Some people might think that being 'furiously happy' is just an excuse to be stupid and irresponsible and invite a herd of kangaroos over to your house without telling your husband first because you suspect he would say no since he's never particularly liked kangaroos. And that would be ridiculous because no one would invite a herd of kangaroos into their house. Two is the limit. I speak from personal experience. My husband says that none is the new limit. I say he should have been clearer about that before I rented all those kangaroos. "Most of my favorite people are dangerously fucked-up but you'd never guess because we've learned to bare it so honestly that it becomes the new normal.

@GAYLORD: Bad Movie Club: The Wasp Woman

Bad Movie Club is back in March with The Wasp Woman (1959)! Will we be able to turn back the effects of time using a cutting edge formula made from the royal jelly of wasps? What exactly does that mean? Is beauty worth such a cost? There is only one way to find out… Essential movie snacks will be provided, minus the royal jelly of wasps. This event is FREE and open to the public.
