Meditation for Everyone--Ongoing Series

If you have not yet attended this program, please email Beth at the Library for introductory materials/information before joining. lawryb2@einetwork.net

This is an ongoing program. Please register. A Zoom link will be emailed to you for the month. The program is free, though donations through the Library's website is welcome.

Carve 30 minutes out of your week to learn simple and practical meditation techniques that can easily be applied in everyday life. Science based benefits of meditation include reduced stress and anxiety levels, improved mood, increased self-awareness, increased energy, memory boost, healthy sleep habits, increased immunity and unconditional joy. Through the practice of meditation, we cultivate inner peace, harmony and well-being. Each session will include a brief discussion and experiential practice. Session includes handouts  to support your home practice. All levels of meditators welcome.

Teacher Cynthia Ballard is grateful to have discovered the gift of yoga and meditation while navigating through an illness over 20 years ago. She found the practices so beneficial in managing her symptoms that she began to share with others through her experience. Cynthia is a 500+ hour certified yoga teacher specializing in meditation, relaxation, hatha yoga, yoga nidra, restorative yoga, and mobility practices. Cynthia has taught at a local yoga studio for over 14 years and has been volunteering at Our Clubhouse (cancer support center) for over 13 years sharing practices for peace and well-being. Cynthia has also shared these practices at the Hillman Cancer Center, MS Society and hospice.

Nationality Rooms of the University of Pittsburgh

PLEASE NOTE: THE TIME FOR THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN CHANGED FROM A 1:00PM START TO 3:30PM (AS OF 5/13/2022)

Migrations & Diasporic Rooms (Israel Heritage, African Heritage, Armenian, Syria-Lebanon, Korean Heritage, Welsh)

Please join Tour Coordinator Michael Walter for virtual tours of the gorgeous Nationality Rooms at Pitt. This presentation will focus on several Nationality Rooms for which the transplanted community reflects historical dispersions and migrations.  The framework will not dwell on geopolitical occurrences but will use one commonality to showcase several beautiful spaces and evidence of human creativity.

The Nationality Rooms at the University of Pittsburgh are unique classrooms like no other classrooms at any university. Created in 1926, the Nationality Rooms & Intercultural Exchange Program was designed to show the achievements of the immigrant nationalities in Pittsburgh. The rooms were all community/committee fundraised and built, and given as gifts to Pitt over the years. Michael will share information on the creation of the rooms, architecture, artifacts, and more. Program is free, registration required (register separately for each session).

PLEASE REGISTER.

WALK TALK WALK

Walk Talk Walk:  A global program,  Shaler Summer Season!

Run Talk Run was created in the UK by Jess Robson for the purpose of creating a safe community in which people can get a little exercise and talk about "how things are going."  Its mission is to "increase accessibility to mental health support through running & walking peer support groups."

Run Talk Run began in 2017 and groups are now meeting worldwide.  In Shaler, we will start one of the program variations, Walk Talk Walk.

Life can be stressful.  We all need a place to feel safe to share (or not share, it is totally fine to stay quiet and just enjoy the exercise).

We will meet weekly on Saturdays in the parking lot of the Library at 8:00am.  The walk is between 1 1/2 - 2 miles.  There is no pressure to be fast, we will walk as fast as our slowest member needs.   For more information, check out runtalkrun.com or email Miss Ing at rev.kalchthaler@gmail.com.  Our first walk was in March and we will be walking again, all summer long!

Listen to the story of how Ms. Robson got the whole thing started on the Running with Jake Plodcast here!

Please register here!

Nationality Rooms that Might Have Been.

Every Nationality Room goes through different ideas of how it might be.  Using alternate versions, we will examine several Nationality Rooms and how they might have been built.  Rooms such as English, Norwegian, Swedish and several others will be examined.

Please join Tour Coordinator Michael Walter for virtual tours of the gorgeous Nationality Rooms at Pitt.
