This National Historic Landmark, located in Washington County, PA, features a massive rock overhang used 19,000 years ago for shelter by the first people in North America. In addition to ancient history at the Rockshelter, visitors to Meadowcroft can also step back in time to experience rural life over the past 500 years through a series of interpretive villages, including a 16th century Eastern Woodland Indian Village, an 18th century log cabin and open-sided trading post, and a 19th century village that includes a church, one-room schoolhouse, and blacksmith shop.

Whether you create short stories, nonfiction, poetry, dialogues, TV Scripts, or existential historical fantasies - everyone who writes likes to belong to a group of like-minded creators for support and accountability. The Shaler North Hills Library Writer's Group could be a great free resource for you. We will have a writer's prompt in a different genre each month, with some weekly Zoom time to silent write on the 2nd and 3rd Mondays and a reading and critique time on the final Monday of each month.

Discover Fort Ligonier! Built in 1758 as winter quarters for soldiers, Fort Ligonier was used to house supplies of the British army and to defend the supply line crucial to the community. It was the last in a string of fortifications that stretched from Philadelphia to a new fort that became Fort Pitt. On display in the Museum is a recreated artillery train that was used to defend the fort and the remains of an 18th century powder magazine, as well as displays about a hospital ward, women’s roles at the hospital, and medical care in the British army during this time period. Plus, every year in October, the community celebrates Ft. Ligonier Days, which includes a reenactment of the October 12, 1758, battle at Ft. Ligonier!

Science based benefits of meditation include reduced stress and anxiety levels, improved mood, increased self-awareness, increased energy, memory boost, healthy sleep habits, increased immunity and unconditional joy. Through the practice of meditation, we cultivate inner peace, harmony and well-being. Each session will include a brief discussion and experiential practice. Session includes handouts to support your home practice. All levels of meditators welcome.

Whether you create short stories, nonfiction, poetry, dialogues, TV Scripts, or existential historical fantasies - everyone who writes likes to belong to a group of like-minded creators for support and accountability. The Shaler North Hills Library Writer's Group could be a great free resource for you. We will have a writer's prompt in a different genre each month, with some weekly Zoom time to silent write on the 2nd and 3rd Mondays and a reading and critique time on the final Monday of each month.

Sessions will be held the third Wednesday of the month at 1:30pm. (Registration is helpful but not required. Walk-ins/drop-ins always welcome!)

Visitors can tour the Visitor Center and many of the settlement’s buildings such as the George Rapp House, Carriage House, Mechanics Building, Wine Cellar, Store, Post Office, Baker House, Bake Oven, Community Kitchen, Cabinet Shop, Blacksmith Shop, and Granary. In these buildings, visitors can observe artifacts on display and learn about the daily life of the Harmonists.

The 139th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Regiment was made up of ten companies from Allegheny, Mercer, and Armstrong Counties. Companies D & F had soldiers from the local area--Shaler, Hampton, Etna, and McCandless.
Join authors John Haltigan and Arthur B. Fox who will share stories of these local men--battles, letters home, stories of veterans and the war's aftermath, and more. Accompanied by historic images.
