Forest Bathing: Living and Healing A Photo Journal

Author Lisa Zschuschen has had many personal struggles with depression and anxiety.  However, forest bathing has calmed her.  Meanwhile, photographer Patricia Ahearn discovered all the health benefits of forest bathing during life’s most difficult and tragic time – the loss of her granddaughter, Violet.   Together, they invite readers to experience the power of nature through a virtual walk in the woods guided by inspirational writings and captivating photographs in “Forest Bathing; Living and Healing—A Photo Journal” (published by iUniverse).

In this photo journal, Zschuschen and Ahearn combine talents to introduce readers to the world of forest bathing, a Japanese-based concept that promotes its followers relaxation, whole body health benefits and a renewed sense of purpose, simply by walking in the woods, using all five senses.

In their own words, Zschuschen and Ahearn explain what forest bathing has meant for them, their families and their health and include commentary from residents, medical doctors and wellness professionals.  Ahearn’s photographs display local natural beauty and highlight nature in its most pristine form.

A free, drop-in event.

Read to A Dog - Session 1

EACH CHILD MAY REGISTER FOR ONE 10 MINUTE "READING APPOINTMENT"

Read to a Dog programs are a wonderful way to encourage reluctant readers or children who need to practice their independent reading skills, especially those who love being with dogs!

Volunteers and dogs are trained and certified in a pet therapy program provided by Paws for People - a non-profit organization associated with the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University. Owner and dog scheduled for today: Julie and Cheyenne. This program is for children who can already read. Registration is required.

Please note: Due to the complexities of scheduling a dog's visit to the library, the program must have a minimum of 3 participating readers. In the event that registrations do not meet this requirement, the program will be cancelled. Cancellations will be posted in red at the top above.
