If you need help with a Kindle, iPad, or other tablet or e-reader, bring your own device. For everything else, we have library computers you can use.

Classics Five Jazz Quintet

Join us at Peace Dale Library on Saturday, June 2, 2 PM, with the Classics Five Jazz Quintet.

The quintet consists of Al Testa, Band Leader, on trumpet and flugelhorn; Carine Paul, vocalist; James Seaberry, lead jazz guitar; Mike Verrecchia, electric/upright bass; and Paul Gruttaduria, drums/vocals. The group plays music from the classic American songbook with jazz improvisation, light rock, show tunes, do-wop, a country tune or two, and movie themes. The musicians are all from Rhode Island and have been playing for many years at venues throughout the state.

Free, open to the public, and made possible by Friends of the Peace Dale Library.

Spirits, Seances, and a Ringing Watch: Joseph P. Hazard and Spiritualism

 Join us at Peace Dale Library, 1057 Kingstown Rd., Peace Dale RI 02879, with Patricia McIvor and "Spirits, Seances, and a Ringing Watch: Joseph Peace Hazard and Spirituality", on Saturday, June 9, at 2 PM. 
 
Joseph Peace Hazard (1807-1892), a Spiritualist and self-described clairvoyant, attended seances, worked with mediums, and kept a detailed record of his watch "ringing", which he believed to be a form of communication from his "Spirit Friends". Rhode Island College Library Assistant Patricia McIvor will share stories from Hazard's papers there and explain how the documents have been digitized in an online exhibit through the Special Collections Department of Adams Library.

A Tale of Two Cities: Roubaix, France, and Renaix, Belgium, in World War I and
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM
Join us at Peace Dale Library on Monday, June 18, 6 PM, with Prof. Richard Vangermeersch for "A Tale of Two Cities: Roubaix and Renaix in World War I".
 
 
The talk will include Prof. Vangermeersch's own family's story about life during the war in northern France and southern Belgium, and relate it to his work on the Leonard Bacon-Irving Fisher papers at Rhode Island College. Bacon and Fisher (both married to women in the Peace Dale Hazard family) kept up a lively correspondence about economic issues during the World War I era that is part of Rhode Island College's Special Collections.
