Cooking the Books: Cookie Exchange

Join us on for our monthly cookbook club, Cooking the Books. This month we're mixing things up a bit with a holiday cookie exchange! Select, from a Southington library cookbook, a cookie recipe you would like to try, bake it, and then bring the cookies to the library to share with others.  If you prefer to prepare one of your own family favorites instead, that is perfectly fine, as well. No homemade cookie will be turned away!

Please bring your cookies on one tray or platter with a copy of your cookie recipe. It is not necessary to package your cookies into portions ahead of time. A container will be provided to hold your new cookie collection. We will attempt to divide the cookies as evenly as possible, but the math may not be in our favor.

knitting and crocheting meetup- Thurs group cancelled until Jan. 4

The Southington Public Library welcomes knitters and crocheters to “Southington Sassy Skeins” a new free and open meetup where we help each other with our knitting or crocheting challenges whether you're a beginner or advanced.  If you are a novice the library has a small supply of yarn, needles, and hooks to get you started.

Our friendly group encompasses mentor volunteers offering guidance to knitters and crocheters with varying skill levels.  Join our group on the mezzanine. We meet twice a week to work on personal and community projects, improve on skills or learn new ones and enjoy lively conversation. Meetup times are:

Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Thursday afternoons from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m.

Come see what all the "Ado" is about! Everybody has such a wide range of experiences and you can get answers for anything.

No registration required.

Line Dancing For Everyone!

Come one, come all!

This is a wonderful group class that incorporates several styles of line dance from country to party and more!  Students learn a series of basic choreographed steps that are danced in lines and repeated many times over – the fun escalates!

No dance experience is necessary, just a willingness to try new things and enjoy the group atmosphere.  Please dress comfortably.  All ages are welcome. Children under twelve should be accompanied by an adult.

Sharyn Farrell has received professional dance training from such champions as Michele Evans and Robert Royston, as well as such schools as Hartt School of Dance, Eastern Connecticut Ballet and The Hartford Conservatory.  Her passion for line dance grew out of her students, and her own desire to dance in a more informal, community-based style.  Line dances are incredibly varied and provide an opportunity to learn many physical skills in a step by step, playful format. Ms. Farrell has been offering innovative dance programs for all ages and abilities since 2000.

Cooking the Books: Sweet & Savory Pies

Do you enjoy browsing through cookbooks and trying new recipes? Do you enjoy tasting new dishes? Then grab your apron and join Southington Library's cookbook club, Cooking the Books!  Check out a Southington Library cookbook on February's topic, Sweet & Savory Pies, and then spend some time experimenting with it. Come to the program on the date posted, ready to share a dish and discuss your experience. If your experiments yield disastrous results, that's okay! Bring it along, anyway!

Participants are encouraged to go green – please bring your own plate, utensils, and serving spoon. Dishes should arrive ready to eat as there is no kitchen facility on hand. Please also bring 16 copies of your recipe to share. Everyone who attends will receive a binder to store their cookbook club recipes.
