Salinger's two books have created an audience which has made a fetish of every nuance of relationship to his own personal life and  here -- in this cerebral exercise of the precision in communication there will be much to implement the saga. For this mirror -- held up to Franny and  to her brother Zooey  in a sharpening light -- reflects also their mother and  their other brothers, and  the two sections interlink as first Franny , and  then Zooey , come into focus. (Kirkus Reviews, September 1, 1961)

POWerful Costumes: The Evolution of the Super Suit

When you think superheroes, certain images come to mind: Superman’s red and yellow "S" (or is it the Kryptonian symbol of Hope?); Wonder Woman’s red, white, and blue outfit (or is it battle skirt and armor?); and Batman’s black armor and cape (or is it grey and yellow spandex?).

Each character represents something—hope, truth, or justice—which their costumes are meant to express through bright, dramatic colors. But, as these characters change, so do their costumes.

The looks that define these characters now is often quite different than how they were first envisioned.

In honor of the May 2018 Library ComicCon, this exhibit shows how some of our favorite superhero costumes have evolved through the years.

The Southington Public Library welcomes knitters and crocheters to “Southington Sassy Skeins” a new free and open meetup where we help each other with our knitting or crocheting challenges whether you're a beginner or advanced.  If you are a novice the library has a small supply of yarn, needles, and hooks to get you started.

Our friendly group encompasses mentor volunteers offering guidance to knitters and crocheters with varying skill levels.  Join our group on the mezzanine. We meet twice a week to work on personal and community projects, improve on skills or learn new ones and enjoy lively conversation. Meetup times are:

Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
