Art Central: Big Larry, Experience and Observation

Mr. Daniels (aka Big Larry) finds inspiration through observation, history, and feeling enabling his style to span hundreds of years. In the three years since he first picked-up a brush, Mr. Daniels has created exceptional pieces that rival established artists in his field. Working exclusively in oil, his approach to time, space, and storytelling reveals a body of work that is fresh and stimulating. His exhibit Experience and Observation is a walk through life as only he knows it. Recently, Mr. Daniels debuted at Art for the Soul Gallery, and on opening day his featured works nearly sold out. One attendee commented: I never knew Larry could paint! He never talked about his work, nor did he ever acknowledge the fact that he was an artist. He truly tells his story and the observations of his experiences since his arrival to the Valley some 30 years ago.

This show is a partnership between the Springfield City Library and Art for the Soul Gallery.

Meets on the second Tuesday of every month | Ages 18 and up

Chair Yoga is a unique. It's a yoga style that adapts yoga positions and poses while incorporating the use of a chair. The chair replaces the yoga mat, and becomes an extension of the body. The student is able to warm-up the body safely, and perform yoga poses with more support and stability. Poses are done seated on the chair, or the chair is used for support during  poses, bends, extensions, balances, and stretches. Chair yoga is suitable for all fitness levels and physical conditions. Led by Nicole Ferraro, a certified yoga instructor.

Afterthoughts Book Discussion Group
1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Meets the second Thursday of every month | Adults

We select a new book to discuss every month. Library copies of the book will be available at the branch. This month we will be reading Things I Have Been Silent About, by Azar Nafisi.

In this stunning personal story of growing up in Iran, Azar Nafisi shares her memories of living in thrall to a powerful and complex mother against the backdrop of a country’s political revolution. A girl’s pain over family secrets, a young woman’s discovery of the power of sensuality in literature, the price a family pays for freedom in a country beset by upheaval—these and other threads are woven together in this beautiful memoir as a gifted storyteller once again transforms the way we see the world and “reminds us of why we read in the first place”

Come join us for a lively discussion and meet others who also enjoy reading. New members are always welcome.

Celebrate 110 years of being here!  Join our kickoff party by playing minigolf with our C3 Forest Park officers, participating in a scavenger hunt, and enjoying refreshments.  Take time to view our historical display of the last 110 years and add your memories in a special memory book or bring a photo to scan to share. Rotunda Rhythms Presents Cantabile
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

All ages, but especially teens and adults.

The Cantabile Vocal Ensemble brings its program 10 Centuries of Music by Women to Rotunda Rhythms. The program includes works by pioneering women composers such as Hildegard von Bingen and Fanny Mendelssohn, but also includes jazz standards and more. Founded in 2002, Cantabile specializes in the music of the European Renaissance, with far-ranging forays into other repertoire. The ensemble has been featured in music series from Boston to Warwick, N.Y., as well as by local venues including the Arcadia Players, Mohawk Trail Concerts, and the Renaissance Center at UMass-Amherst, among a number of others. Cantabile is Mary Hubbell, Kayla Werlin, Justina Golden, James Mead, and Peter Shea, all music professionals practicing in western Massachusetts.

Underwritten by the Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Friends of the library, the concert includes a free attendance raffle open to all those who stay for the concert.
