The Art & Craft of Windsor Chairs
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Join craftsman Patrick Perkins for a demonstration and discussion of handcrafted Windsor chairs.  Perkin's constructs chairs much in the same way Windsor chairs were created in the early 18th century.  Most of the pieces are taken directly from freshly cut local maple, oak, and pine. The presentation will focus on how Perkins splits logs and turns them into chair pieces, as well as the variety of tools used. The process of finishing the chairs with milk paint and oil will also be described. Join us to watch a master at work!

Dancing Through Time with Kandie Carle
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Kandie Carle and Marc Casslar, members of the Vintage Dance Society of CT, will perform a WW I (Ragtime-era) dance demonstration. See the Tango, Waltz, Hesitation, Blues, Foxtrot, and Castle Walk performed.  We'll also learn background information on the history of social dances of the era. With humor and grace, Carle and Casslar also add insight into the fashion and music of the era.

This program is supported by an anonymous donation in honor of Barbara Fitzgerald for her many years of dedicated service to Storrs Library.

The Development of Music 1100 - 1650

Join us for a survey of music in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. The period of music history in the West from around the year 1000 to the birth of J.S. Bach in 1685 is incredibly rich in variety and evolutionary development. This six-week program endeavors to provide a fundamental overview of over 600 years of early music through discussion and listening to recordings of some of the leading composers of the era.
