Setting Your Voice Free with Linda Cardillo
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Your writer’s voice is as distinctive as your fingerprint or the pattern of your iris. It is an expression of 'you' in a deeply personal and visceral way. But as writers, we often flounder trying to achieve a distinctive voice. Rather than seeking to capture your voice, come discover how to set it free. Explore the roles perception, memory, and emotional honesty play in developing and refining your unique voice as a writer.

Join author Linda Cardillo for this 10-week workshop.

Bach and the Baroque, Program Extended
10:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Rob Humberston continues his study on Bach and the Baroque. The Baroque Era in music covers the period from around 1600 to 1750, following the Renaissance and preceding the Classical period. Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) is generally recognized as the leading composer of the era, and in addition to his genius, we will explore many of the composers of a variety of national styles that define the times. Beginning with Claudio Monteverdi as the bridge between the Italian Renaissance and the emerging Baroque, we will hear examples of music of both well known and less well-known composers from Bohemia, England, France, Italy, and Germany.

Recordings of both sacred and secular and choral and instrumental music will demonstrate the enormous variety of forms reflecting both the genius of the composers and the importance of music during these times. Drawing from an extensive collection of recordings, listening will focus on those of special merit primarily based on historically-informed performance practices by leading artists in the field.

Spring is a great time to listen to Baroque music with its several key popular and important works influenced by the season. We hope you’ll find this program pleasurable and informative. Please join us.

Tech Talk with Colin Campbell: Computer Security for Non-technical People
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

From online banking and shopping, to social media communities such as Facebook & Nextdoor, we rely on computers to handle our personal information.  Unfortunately, sometimes technology is not as secure as we think it is. Most of us have read stories about computer hacking, or have seen hackers in and movies & television, but sorting reality from fiction can be difficult. News coverage of  “cybercrime” is often non-specific, or too full of technical information to be helpful.  Advice for how to keep yourself secure can be overwhelming and contradictory.

This talk will cut through the mass of information about computer security and give you practical advice on what you can do to keep your computer, smart devices, and data protected.
· Who are the most common “bad guys” on the internet?
· What are criminals trying to get from their targets & what can they do with it?
· How simple changes to your computer use can help keep you secure.

Flyer For Club 6.9.3.Join our 2nd and 3rd Grade book group for games, crafts, snacks and fun! This month's book selection is Regarding the Fountain: a tale, in letters, of liars, and leaks by Kate Klise.

"What Dry Creek Middle School needs is a plain, functional drinking fountain to replace its leaking old one. What it gets is Florence Waters, impresario fountain designer who has in mind something with exotic birds, an ice skating rink, geysers and chocolate milk dispensers. This rollicking story, told entirely through letters, memos, newspaper articles and transcripts, escalates into a hullabaloo involving a fifth-grade class, an evil school board member, a sinister water company executive and an increasingly bewildered principal who fruitlessly attempts to scale back Florence Waters's grandiose plans." - From Publishers Weekly

Lynda Loigman Presents: The Wartime Sisters
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Storrs Library is pleased to welcome author Lynda Logiman back to Longmeadow to present her latest work, Wartime Sisters. Lynda Cohen Loigman grew up in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She received a B.A. in English and American Literature from Harvard College and a law degree from Columbia Law School. Lynda practiced law in New York City for eight years before moving out of the city to raise her two children with her husband. Her first novel, The Two-Family House, was a nominee for the Goodreads 2016 Choice Awards in Historical Fiction. Her second novel, The Wartime Sisters, was published this past January.

About Wartime Sisters

Two estranged sisters, raised in Brooklyn and each burdened with her own shocking secret, are reunited at the Springfield Armory in the early days of WWII. While one sister lives in relative ease on the bucolic Armory campus as an officer’s wife, the other arrives as a war widow and takes a position in the Armory factories as a “soldier of production.” Resentment festers between the two, and secrets are shattered when a mysterious figure from the past reemerges in their lives.

“One of my favorite books of the year.” Fiona Davis, national bestselling author of The Dollhouse and The Masterpiece

“A stirring tale of loyalty, betrayal, and the consequences of long-buried secrets.” Kristina McMorris, New York Times bestselling author of The Edge of Lost and Sold on a Monday
