Setting Your Voice Free Writing Workshop

Join us for this six-week workshop for active and aspiring writers with author Linda Cardillo. Your writer’s voice is as distinctive as your fingerprint or the pattern of your iris.  It is an expression of “you” in a deeply personal and visceral way. But as writers we often flounder trying to achieve a distinctive voice.  Rather than seeking to capture your voice, come discover how to set it free. Explore the roles perception, memory and emotional honesty play in developing and refining your unique voice as a writer.

80s Arthouse Movies
80s Arthouse Movies: True Love

Storrs Library will be showing films of the Reagan era that were off-beat and yet showcased directors that later went on to great acclaim, from Gus Van Sant to Spike Lee to Nancy Savoca. Come see what was playing at your art house cinemas in the 1980s while Top Gun and Rambo were being shown at the new "multiplexs."

December 4 we will be viewing "True Love," a movie that "plunges into the middle of the preparations for a marriage and shows us a man and woman being swept toward matrimony by a tide of relatives, friends, traditions and plans - even though they probably shouldn't get married at all. It's a comedy about uneasiness; nearly everyone in the film knows, in one way or another, that the marriage is a bad idea, but once events are set into motion nothing can stop them." - Roger Ebert
