Introducing a new free early literacy program which encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she begins kindergarten!
The program entails reading any book to your newborn, infant and/or toddler before they start kindergarten. It may sound hard to do, but it really is not! If you read just one book a night together, you will have read 365 books in a year! That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years! There are no restrictions as to which book you read or how many times you read it! It can include books read to your child by a teacher, a sibling, or during Story Time. Each experience counts as a book read!

Come on board for a Zoom cooking adventure. Join UK travel/relocation consultant and former UK resident Claire Evans for a delightful culinary tour of the UK inspired by “The Great British Baking Show” television series, aired on PBS. Learn about making a proper cup of tea, regional specialties, their origins, and the particular parts of the UK they hail from. As it’s the holidays, she’ll focus on festive baking in particular. She’ll translate the trickiest parts of British recipes for Americans so you can try them in your own kitchen. Pick up a few useful travel tips as well, just in case you’d like to create your own tour!
Claire Evans is a former journalist, attorney, and college lecturer who started her love of most things British as she and her mother watched countless Britcoms on PBS. She went on to study abroad in London and, against the odds, she married a Brit she met in Peoria, Illinois. They moved to England, where they lived for a number of years. Outside of her work for a legal advice charity, Claire became a student of historical sights, pub dining, and tea shops. Her business, Tea with Claire, grew from friends asking for travel and relocation advice.

An up-close portrait of one of the most prolific defensive players in NCAA history and a life almost unraveled by football - a memoir of true inspiration. The Game That Almost Broke Me is the inspirational story of Tavarski Wallace, an ambitious player in the game of achieving a spot in the NFL, and a resilient player in the turbulent, challenging, and sometimes unfair game of life. The intriguing evolution of Wallace is remarkable in this book-long journey, which is marked by milestones of overcoming adversity - from resolving struggles academically, supporting his hard-working single mother, to ultimately managing the unforgiving politics of professional football, Wallace's story is uplifting and inspiring.
From modest beginnings in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Tavarski documents a series of key relationships which shaped him as an individual and helped fuel his dreams of becoming a linebacker in the NFL. With unrelenting persistence every step of the way, the experiences, failures, and surprising successes of Tavarski in The Game That Almost Broke Me prove how the American Dream can dramatically transform with time and may even become something entirely different in the end.
Meet Tavarski Wallace
Tavarski Wallace's journey is an extraordinary testament to the power of resilience and determination. Growing up he faced numerous challenges and had to navigate life's obstacles on his own.
During his formative years, Tavarski found himself grappling with confusion, frequently getting suspended from school, and displaying disobedience towards his teachers. However, a significant turning point arrived when his football coach imparted words of wisdom that continue to fuel his motivation to this day.
These words served as transformative keys that shattered the chains holding him back and propelled him towards greatness. Wallace is not only the proud owner of TW Consulting, but also a passionate advocate for struggling students within school districts. Through his expertise and guidance, he empowers educational institutions to cultivate an environment where individuals can thrive, enabling them to reach their fullest potential and attain extraordinary accomplishments.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tavarski has penned an inspiring autobiography titled The Game that Almost Broke Me. Within its pages, he candidly shares the ups and downs of his life, recounting the pursuit of his dream to play in the NFL. Through his compelling narrative, he uplifts readers, illustrating the importance of perseverance and unwavering faith in oneself.
Tavarski Wallace's story serves as a beacon of hope for individuals facing adversity, demonstrating that one's circumstances do not define their potential. His relentless pursuit of personal and professional growth serves as an inspiration to all those striving to overcome their own challenges and make a positive impact in the world.

There have been over six-thousand recorded shipwrecks in the history of the Great Lakes, but there was only one like the "City of Bangor". The wreck provides an amazing tale of rescue and survival after the ship crashed onto a Lake Superior reef east of Copper Harbor in November of 1926.
During this virtual presentation on Zoom, Larry Jorgensen, author of Shipwrecked and Rescued: Cars and Crew will discuss the near death challenges faced by the crewmen as they struggled for two days in deep and blowing snow and subzero temperatures on the isolated northern tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
After the miraculous rescue of the crew what followed was a difficult three month ordeal to safely retrieve all of the cars from the abandoned ice covered wreck and have them returned to the Detroit manufacturer.

Hey Tecumseh Teens! Join us for snacks and conversation as we discuss this month's title.

We live in a complex, challenging, confusing, and sometimes chaotic world. It is no wonder we all experience disappointment, discouragement, defeat, depression, or despair at times. How are we supposed to handle these negative emotions? Is suicide ever justified? Author Marti Scott, whose brother took his own life, will discuss how suicide impacted her life. In addition, Scott, author of Suicide – The Biblical View: How to Biblically Handle Disappointment, Discouragement, Defeat, Depression and Despair, will offer practical help for those who have concluded that suicide is not the answer to their struggles.
Marti Scott received a BS with a group major in English language and literature and a minor in speech and drama. In addition to various office jobs, she taught English at a Christian school and substitute taught for several years. Marti has years of experience singing in churches and directing adult and children's choirs. She also enjoys decorating her home, sewing, and crafting. Marti and her husband Jeff have been married for 52 years and have two children and seven grandchildren. They live in Michigan where they are active church members.

After several years working as a sports editor in Juneau, Alaska, Jim DuFresne spent the winter of 1981 in New Zealand backpacking and wrote his first book, Tramping in New Zealand, for Lonely Planet. He followed up with Lonely Planet’s Alaska travel guidebook and then returned to Michigan to write Isle Royale National Park: Foot Trails & Water Routes.
That guide to the wilderness areas of Isle Royale, known at the park as the “backpacker’s bible,” is in its 40th year of continuous publication in various editions.
Having reached that amazing milestone, DuFresne decided to wrap up his career, with a presentation entitled "The End of the Trail: A Life Well Spent Walking in the Woods and Sleeping on the Ground." The hour-long PowerPoint presentation highlights the best wilderness adventures of his long career, taking the audience into the wilds of New Zealand, Alaska, and of course Isle Royale
Among DuFresne’s more than 20 published titles are Backpacking in Michigan and 12 Classic Trout Streams in Michigan: A Handbook for Fly Anglers (University of Michigan Press), The Trails of M-22 and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park (MichiganTrailMaps.com) and 50 Hikes In Michigan (Backcountry Publications).

Not far upstream lies romantic Vienna, displaying elegant architecture and one of the world’s richest musical heritages. The journey passes through a dozen historic settings, replete with legends and charm, such as the abbey at Melk and cities like Regensburg, Koblenz and Cologne, and includes a stop to explore authentic Dutch windmills at Kinderdijk. At the northern end of this journey is vibrant Amsterdam, the city of canals, flowers, and the art of Rembrandt and Van Gogh.

Much of what we know about Roman daily life comes to us not from the city of Rome, but from Pompeii and other cities in the Bay of Naples which were buried by the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE. Cities were buried under more than 20 feet of stone and ash, which helped to preserve a literal snapshot of what was happening right before the eruption. What is your daily routine? Wake up, eat breakfast, brush teeth, work, exercise, come home, eat dinner, and bed? Sounds about right, with some variation in there? Do you think the ancient Romans had a different daily routine – or was it the same? Join the University of Michigan’s Kelsey Museum of Archaeology on Zoom as we discover what a day in the life of a citizen of ancient Rome was like, based on evidence gathered from the ruins of Pompeii.

The laundry line? What’s there to talk about? Clothesline historian and hobbyist Anne Lawrence will take you on a nostalgic trip back in time to the days when everyone hung their wash on the line to dry – when they went online without the internet! There will be memories to share, links between the clothesline and social/cultural issues, history, feminism, psychology, sociology, and ecology. You will hear why “solar drying” – that wonderful free sun – is once again the way to go in today’s eco-conscious world. There will be personal stories, delightful slides to see, along with a peek at Lawrence’s vast collection of laundry memorabilia. We may end up with a laundry list of things to think about, but she won’t leave us hanging while airing her thoughts. She will pin things down for us, and try to remove any hang-ups we may have about using the clothesline. So, come join us and let’s hang out together!
Anne Lawrence is an alumna of Tufts University in psychology and education. She enjoyed a 20-year career in university administration at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Since retiring and relocating to Ann Arbor 13 years ago, she has been happily sharing her hobby with people all over the area.
