The Ukulele Scramble

Ukulele Duo Serves Up Choice Tunes Freshly Scrambled0--   DON'T MISS THE FUN  !!

The duo of Robin Hoffman and Richard Perlmutter, based in Western MA, sing and play ukuleles. Their act, called The Ukulele Scramble is funny, entertaining, and masterful. It also starts with a repertoire that's unusual for ukulele players - classical music.

Robin and Richard love Beethoven, Bach and Brahms, as well as Renaissance music, and art and parlor songs. But as the name of their group implies, they don't exactly play it straight. The music they play is "scrambled." They pluck a piece by Beethoven like it's bluegrass, fingerpick a work by Mendelssohn like a folk song, and play an art song by composer Amy Beach like 50's pop. Many of their songs have new or updated lyrics by Richard, who is a 4x GRAMMY Nominee - earned for his witty lyrics set to classical music in his series of Beethoven's Wig albums. Ukulele Scramble songs are served up in a harmonious, humorous, and happy-go-lucky style that these two veterans bring to the stage.

Both Robin and Richard have had long careers in the performing arts. Individually they have performed at the Hollywood Bowl, Metropolitan Opera, Kennedy Center, Grammy Museum and Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Before her current career as a ukulele player and instructor at Greenfield Community College, Robin was a professional ballet dancer with The Joffrey Ballet, and Metropolitan Opera. Richard has toured throughout North America with Beethoven's Wig, and plays classical piano, guitar, and mandolin. He has also produced music for GRAMMY AWARD winner Nickel Creek, and GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Winners Tom Paxton and Ella Jenkins.

Reader's Theater ages 8-11

Come have fun at Reader's Theater, for ages 8 - 11.  Each week, we'll read a different short & funny play. After a few weeks, the kids will vote for the one they like best. Then we'll focus on the chosen script to practice, make quick costumes for and the kids that are available will present it at an August storytime. All children ages 8 - 11 are welcome, even if they can't attend every week. Come to one session, or come to all! Library staff Elisabeth and Cathie create a friendly, welcoming environment, for kids to have creative fun.The Reader's Theater series will be held each Wednesday from July 17 to August 21, 2:00 - 3:30.
