A Visit with General & Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

This presentation brings history to life!

Challenge your intellect and understanding of pivotal events in our nation’s “most unholy war.”

An unforgettable and refreshing interpretation of leadership held
to a higher standard with lessons as relevant in the modern world of today as
they were over one hundred years past.

~Registration Appreciated~

Since 1989, Sam Grant has dedicated his life to understanding Ulysses S. Grant, one of the greatest leaders this nation has ever known.  After years of study and experience portraying the part of General Grant, his professional interpretation of the General’s physical stature and character have won him the intellectual admiration and heartfelt appreciation of the most serious students of Civil War history and novice spectators alike.

Hall of Presidents Book Club: Abraham Lincoln
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Abaraham Lincoln by David Herbert Donald

Join us as we read through the presidents of the United States!
The idea is to not only learn a few things, but to get a deeper understanding the role the presidency has played in this nation's history!
In the midst of a recent discussion, we came to the realization that our knowledge of much of American history was wanting. We decided to undertake a journey through the American presidency from beginning to end starting with George Washington, reading a biography of each president in the order they served. The hope is that this will acquaint us with not only each President, but also the history of the time in which they lived and died.

Windsor Chair Presentation
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

From Tree to Chair:

Crafting Antique-Style 18th Century Windsor Chairs

Join woodworker Patrick Perkins as he shares his knowledge and experience designing and building Windsor chairs.

During his presentation Patrick will describe the types of wood used in chair construction, and how wood is taken directly from logs and fashioned into finished chair parts.

Patrick will also share examples of antique-style tools he uses, and how milk paint and oil are combined to produce a durable and beautiful finish.

About Patrick:

After graduating from Fitchburg State University, Patrick Perkins embarked on a career in education that has lasted close to four decades. As an industrial arts teacher, Patrick taught many aspects of woodworking and technical drawing to middle school students. After numerous years in the classroom, Patrick became a school administrator, a position he held until his retirement in 2015. Following an inspirational trip to Colonial Williamsburg, Patrick built his first Windsor chair in the early 1980s. He has since built many Windsor chairs in several different styles using the same techniques and tools used in the construction of Windsor chairs throughout the 18th century.

Hall of Presidents Book Club: Andrew Johnson
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Andrew Johnson by Annette Gordon-Reed

Join us as we read through the presidents of the United States!
The idea is to not only learn a few things, but to get a deeper understanding the role the presidency has played in this nation's history!
In the midst of a recent discussion, we came to the realization that our knowledge of much of American history was wanting. We decided to undertake a journey through the American presidency from beginning to end starting with George Washington, reading a biography of each president in the order they served. The hope is that this will acquaint us with not only each President, but also the history of the time in which they lived and died.

Short Film Club hosted by Ward Clark
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

Short Film Club

This Month's Feature Film "Merger"

Image result for keiichi matsuda merger

Keiichi Matsuda is back at filmmaking. Merger, his first narrative work since 2016’s viral short HYPER-REALITY, is online for good starting today, and in a short 4 minutes the piece artfully extends Matsuda’s existing ruminations on broad societal trends such as augmented reality, techno-capitalism, and the creeping gamification/optimization of life, while extending their expression to a new medium—360/VR.

Each month we watch a varirty of short films and discuss the good, the bad, and the just plain weird.

Bonus: WE HAVE SNACKS!

Join the Facebook Group for more fun!

Who is Ward Clark?

He is our local film buff! He has a permanent movie display in the library called "Ward's Picks". He uses his own rating system to recommend movies!

Garden Design
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Garden Design

Presented by Joanne Pearson

What makes for a great garden?

With beautifully photographed showcase gardens as our examples, we will explore and dissect garden design and the hardscape and softscape elements that make a design shine.

We will discuss how you can come up with a concept plan for your own yard and ways you can modify and incorporate some of those grand themes seen in showcase gardens into a scale suitable for your own backyard, your pocketbook and your schedule.

This presentation is great for both gardeners and for those who want to broaden their appreciation for good landscape design.

About Joanne

For over 25 years, Joanne has specialized in capturing evocative photographs of architecture, interiors, lifestyle and food for editorial, commercial and hospitality clients.

Her work has appeared in Yankee, Cape Cod Home, Farm and Ranch Living, Vermont Life and New England Boating among many others.

The 33 1/3 Club - Vinyl Records!
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The 33 1/3 Club

Ever look back and think about how listening to music was an activity all on its own?

Got Vinyl?

Bring in your own stack of vinyl records and share your favorites with other music enthusiasts.  If you can’t bring your own, check out the collection at the Townsend Public Library.  No matter what your taste in music, members of the Townsend Library 33 1/3 Club are enamored to spin and listen to those old familiar tunes to the most esoteric melodies.

Discussion will focus on, but certainly will not be limited to, the time period, the tracks, the album cover art and the artist.  Join in for a listen to this months edition.

Join Dave Schuttler, Bradley Sherwood  and Ward Clark for an evening of music and conversation!

Hall of Presidents Book Club: Ulysses S. Grant
7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Ulysses S. Grant by Josiah Bunting
