The 33 1/3 Club
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

The 33 1/3 Club

Ever look back and think about how listening to music was an activity all on its own?

Remember scouring over the artwork on the cover of your new vinyl LP and hoping the lyrics were printed on the inner sleeve.  Now is your chance to spin some vinyl on the turntable in a group setting and immerse yourself in the music.  The 33 1/2 club at the Townsend Public Library will meet and listen to classic LP's.

Discussion will focus on, but certainly will not be limited to, the time period, the tracks, the album cover art and the artist.  Join in for a listen to this months edition.

Join Dave Schuttler, Bradley Sherwood  and Ward Clark for an evening of music and conversation!

Hall of Presidents Book Club: William Henry Harrison

John Tyler by Gary May

Join us as we read through the presidents of the United States!
The idea is to not only learn a few things, but to get a deeper understanding the role the presidency has played in this nation's history!
In the midst of a recent discussion, we came to the realization that our knowledge of much of American history was wanting. We decided to undertake a journey through the American presidency from beginning to end starting with George Washington, reading a biography of each president in the order they served. The hope is that this will acquaint us with not only each President, but also the history of the time in which they lived and died.

Japanese Flower Arranging
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Introduction to Ikebana: A Slideshow and Demonstration by Holly O. Harris

Learn about the Japanese aesthetic and how to add natural elegance to your floral arrangements.

Holly Harris has more than fifteen years of experience studying, arranging, exhibiting and lecturing on Ikebana - the Japanese art of flower arranging.

She will explain the finer points of Ikebana in a presentation including a brief description of its history and philosophy, followed by a demonstration of an Ikebana arrangement using local materials.

Holly O. Harris has been creating floral arrangements since she was a young girl. Her formal training began 18 years ago with teacher Ritsuko Chojin at the Kittery Point Ikebana Ikenobo chapter. Holly has participated in Ikebana Ikenobo symposia, shown her arrangements in the Wentworth Coolidge Mansion, and in several exhibits at the Portsmouth Library. For 10 years Holly exhibited weekly flower arrangements at UNH’s Murkland Hall. She has lectured, taught, and demonstrated Ikebana throughout New England.

7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

James K Polk by John Seigenthaler

Join us as we read through the presidents of the United States!
The idea is to not only learn a few things, but to get a deeper understanding the role the presidency has played in this nation's history!
In the midst of a recent discussion, we came to the realization that our knowledge of much of American history was wanting. We decided to undertake a journey through the American presidency from beginning to end starting with George Washington, reading a biography of each president in the order they served. The hope is that this will acquaint us with not only each President, but also the history of the time in which they lived and died.
