This 45 minute art and creativity class is for children ages 12 months to Kindergarten to attend with their caregiver. We do provide aprons for children but this class might get messy! Miss Jen will be on hand to read a story and provide encouragement and help, but this is your chance to get creative with your littles! You can stay for the full 45 minutes, but you're also free to go as soon as you are done with your project if you prefer. Registration for everyone attending, including adults, is required.

This month's Creativity Corner will be all about wrapping! There will be small items that children can wrap, using our paper or, with the help of their caregiver, some paper that they create during Creativity Corner.

Shut Up And Write Meetup
6:00 PM - 7:45 PM

Ventress Memorial Library is excited to host Shut Up & Write! Meetup GroupShut Up & Write hosts free in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Their goal is to ensure that every writer, regardless of genre or skill level, has access to the community, accountability, and resources they need to be successful in their personal writing goals. Our events use our proven formula: a few minutes of introductions, an hour of focused writing, and a final check-in to share the hour's progress.

After introductions, we will write for a quiet, focused period of time. Afterward, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. These events are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing. All writers welcome. RSVP at Meetup.com

Contemporary Book Group
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Please join us via Zoom Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 7 p.m. We will be discussing Three Girls From Bronzeville by Dawn Turner

They were three Black girls. Dawn, tall and studious; her sister, Kim, younger by three years and headstrong; and her best friend, Debra, already prom-queen pretty by third grade. They bonded as they roamed the concrete landscape of Bronzeville, a historic neighborhood on Chicago’s South Side, the destination of hundreds of thousands of Black folks who fled the ravages of the Jim Crow South.

These third-generation daughters of the Great Migration come of age in the 1970s, in the warm glow of the recent civil rights movement. It has offered them a promise that they will have more opportunities, rights, and freedoms than any generation of Black Americans in history. But the girls have much more immediate concerns: hiding under the dining room table and eavesdropping on grown folks’ business; collecting secret treasures; and daydreaming about their futures. And then fate intervenes, sending them careening in wildly different directions. There’s heartbreak, loss, displacement, and even murder.

Three Girls from Bronzeville is a memoir that chronicles Dawn’s attempt to find answers. It’s a celebration of sisterhood, a testimony to the unique struggles of Black women, and a tour-de-force about the complex interplay of race, class, and opportunity, and how those forces shape our lives and our capacity for resilience and redemption. Library Closes for Carpet Renovation through February 2023
9:00 AM - 8:00 PM

The library will be closed December 16th, 2022 - February 2023

The Ventress Memorial Library is getting a long-awaited makeover! This winter all of our 20-year-old carpeting will be getting replaced. This requires a lengthy closure due to the presence of asbestos under the old carpeting. We will close December 16th and reopen in February 2023.

During this period, the library will be completely closed and we will not be able to lend any of our physical items through interlibrary loan. Marshfield patrons will still be able to place holds on items from other OCLN libraries and pick them up at the Duxbury Free Library or another preferred OCLN library.

Learn more about the carpet closure here.
