Who is your neighbor? Neighbors and neighborhoods are special. Today's storytime will highlight some of the books from "The Welcoming Library" collection, which will be on display during the month of February. This collection of 30 acclaimed picture books features New Arrival and New American families and helps raise awareness and build sensitivity for all ages through children's literature.
Enjoy an interactive, theme-based, multi-age storytime with an emphasis on early literacy that will include an art activity that can be completed at the library or at home. Ages 2 -5 with caregiver.

Try an easy project to learn beading techniques needing only a few basic tools. The hardest part will be selecting your beads from our large supply! Teens in grades 9-12 and adults, please register.
Fitness professional Nancy Hallock leads participants through a series of safe stretching, strengthening, and mobility exercises designed to enhance your daily walk. The class concludes with a short walk and recovery session. Adults of all ages and abilities welcome. Made possible through the Northeast Wellness and Fitness Initiative. Please register.
The Secrets of Chocolate: a gourmand's trip through a top chef's atelier by Franckie Alarcon Following Jacques Genin for a year, Franckie Alarcon hobnobbed with one of the biggest chefs of Chocolate. Former chef and pastry chef for prestigious restaurants, this super-talented autodidact shares all his passion and knowledge of chocolate and his process for creating recipes. In this docu-comic, we travel with the starry-eyed author, satisfying many a craving from the chef's amazing atelier above his store, trying his hand as an apprentice, all the way to the Peruvian cocoa plantations where another chef shows how one carefully chooses the beans. We will be tasting a variety of local chocolates from shops around the capital district. Copies are available to borrow, or to purchase for $5.00, thanks to the Friends of the Library. Come learn the art of book folding from Beth Oldrich, the author of Beginnings in Book Folding and Book Folding for Beginners and Beyond. Book folding is the art of folding pages in books to create book sculptures. This is an eco-friendly craft that transforms used books into art. Book lovers and crafters of all ages will enjoy this unusual art form. In this class, you will create a heart that will make the perfect Valentine’s day gift for that someone special in your life. The Voorheesville Library will be celebrating Take Your Child to the Library Day with a very special event! Magician Ron Cain will take children on an imaginary trip through his magical library that will transport them to fantastical places like Wonderland, Neverland, Hogwarts and Oz. Children will help Ron perform illusions inspired by storybook characters and come up with ideas for improving their world. Values stressed include kindness, honesty, cooperation, hard work, and conservation. Suitable for all ages with families. No registration required.

In MAKING BLACK AMERICA, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., joins in intimate conversation with Black thought leaders and community members, as well as interviews with leading historians and other experts to discuss this world behind the color line, and draw viewers into an extraordinary world that showcased Black people's ability to collectively prosper, defy white supremacy and define Blackness in ways that transformed America itself.

Join the discussion of selected books from the “Welcoming Library” touring collection of picture books that features New Arrival and New American families. The collection will be on display at the Voorheesville Library during the month of February and families will have the opportunity to check out the books in an effort to raise awareness and build sensitivity through children’s literature. Attendees will participate in the Students Rebuild initiative, “Welcoming Refugees Project,” by creating postcards that will be sent to young refugees around the world who have been displaced by war or another crisis. The Bezos Family Foundation will donate $5.00 to refugee-aid organizations for every postcard created. For grades K-3 with a caregiver. Please register and pick out a book at the library. Book choices: Alma and How She Got Her Name by Juana Martinez-Neal or Where Are You From? by Yamile Saied Mendez.
