Cover to Cover Book Discussion - Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue

Join us online for our afternoon book discussion of Imbolo Mbue's Behold the Dreamers.

Jende Jonga, a Cameroonian immigrant living in Harlem, has come to the United States to provide a better life for himself, his wife, Neni, and their six-year-old son. In the fall of 2007, Jende can hardly believe his luck when he lands a job as a chauffeur for Clark Edwards, a senior executive at Lehman Brothers. Clark demands punctuality, discretion, and loyalty—and Jende is eager to please. Clark’s wife, Cindy, even offers Neni temporary work at the Edwardses’ summer home in the Hamptons. With these opportunities, Jende and Neni can at last gain a foothold in America and imagine a brighter future.

However, the world of great power and privilege conceals troubling secrets, and soon Jende and Neni notice cracks in their employers’ façades.

When the financial world is rocked by the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the Jongas are desperate to keep Jende’s job—even as their marriage threatens to fall apart. As all four lives are dramatically upended, Jende and Neni are forced to make an impossible choice.

You must register for this discussion in order to attend.

History Hub - Julius Caesar: Man of Ambition

Calling on all history buffs! Julius Caesar was one of the most ambitious men in history. He left a lasting impression on the old Roman Empire that has been etched in the minds of historians and scholars for centuries after his time. He was loved by the people, but gradually viewed by the Senate, as an up and coming dictator, who knew no limits to gaining power.

All registrants will receive a Zoom link via email to attend this program.

*Registrants will have the option to attend the program in person at the library, but will be limited to ONLY 12 people.

Book Discussion w/ Reference Librarian Jack

Join us for our book discussion on Killing Crazy Horse by Bill O'Reilly!

The latest installment of the multimillion-selling Killing series is a gripping journey through the American West and the historic clashes between Native Americans and settlers.

The bloody Battle of Tippecanoe was only the beginning. It's 1811 and President James Madison has ordered the destruction of Shawnee warrior chief Tecumseh's alliance of tribes in the Great Lakes region. But while General William Henry Harrison would win this fight, the armed conflict between Native Americans and the newly formed United States would rage on for decades.

Bestselling authors Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard venture through the fraught history of our country’s founding on already occupied lands, from General Andrew Jackson’s brutal battles with the Creek Nation to President James Monroe’s epic “sea to shining sea” policy, to President Martin Van Buren’s cruel enforcement of a “treaty” that forced the Cherokee Nation out of their homelands along what would be called the Trail of Tears. O’Reilly and Dugard take readers behind the legends to reveal never-before-told historical moments in the fascinating creation story of America.

This fast-paced, wild ride through the American frontier will shock readers and impart unexpected lessons that reverberate to this day.

This program will be conducted in the library's community room and through Zoom.

All registrants will receive a Zoom link via email.

Medicare Made Easy

This seminar led by Marie Cantone is designed to take the confusion out of all the options available so you can make choices that are right for you.  We will review the basics of Medicare, supplementary insurance, advantage plans, prescription drug plans, "donut" hole eligibility requirements and enrollment windows.  Because there are often changes in plans and pricing, we will review the must-know issues.

Registration is ongoing.
