ONLINE Guest Author Yasmin Azad
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM

"We did not stay in our houses. Not in the way our grandmothers had, or our mothers. We went out a little more and veiled ourselves a little less," begins this coming-of age memoir. Suffused with love, humor and compassion this poignant story gives an intimate glimpse into a traditional Muslim community that has to balance the rules of Islamic orthodoxy with the freedoms and innovations of the Westernized modern world.

We welcome Yasmin Azad.  Yasmin was born and raised in the Galle Fort, Sri Lanka.  After obtaining a degree in English from the University of Ceylon, and a brief stint as a lecturer, she moved to the United Stats in her twenties.  She recently retired after many years as a mental health counselor.
