Introduction to Transcendental Meditation

TM is a simple, natural technique practiced 20 minutes twice each day while sitting comfortably with the eyes closed.  TM — brought to the West in 1959 by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi — is an ancient technique that's easy to learn and enjoyable to practice. It's not a religion, philosophy, or lifestyle.  Learn why TM is so effective for stress and anxiety and how it improves brain function and memory.  This is not a workshop but an introduction.

Our presenter is Richard Dalby, Director of TM Greater New Haven.

Popular Science Book Discussion

Join our discussion of The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould (1981).

This book is both a history and critique of the statistical methods and cultural motivations underlying biological determinism, the belief that "the social and economic differences between human groups—primarily races, classes, and sexes—arise from inherited, inborn distinctions and that society, in this sense, is an accurate reflection of biology".

Dr. Phil Barnes, Associate Professor of Biology, Connecticut College, will be the discussion facilitator.
