Mindfulness Meditation

This 7-week Mindfulness Drop-In Course will offer opportunities for beginners and experienced meditators to learn about mindfulness and deepen their practice.  Each class will include instruction, extended practice, and time for discussion.  Topics will include: foundational practices such as breath meditation, body scan, and standing meditation; kindness, compassion, and forgiveness practices; contemplations for working with physical and emotional pain; and mindful eating exercises.  The class is open to those new to mindfulness meditation and also to those with experience.  Participants will gain the experience and confidence to cultivate their own personal at-home practice.

The Course will meet on Tuesdays, 7:00 – 8:15, starting Oct. 2nd through Nov. 13th.  Attendance at all sessions is not required, but momentum will build from week to week.  There is no registration; each session will be limited to the first thirty participants.

Greg Topakian, Ph.D., is a long time educator and actuary.   Over the past thirty years, he has balanced his professional life with a daily practice of yoga and mindfulness meditation.   During that period Greg has participated in several long-term retreats to deepen his concentration and awareness.   He has facilitated a mindfulness group in his home for the last fifteen years, and has taught several multi-week Introduction to Mindfulness courses at the Westborough Library.   Now in semi-retirement, Greg teaches mindfulness to employees of local colleges, town governments, and corporations across the state.

For more information, please call the library at 508-366-3050.
