Adult Take and Make Craft: Custom Iron-On Face Mask!

Adult Take and Make Craft: Custom Iron-On Face Mask! You will be provided the supplies and instructions to custom iron-on your own face mask at home. This craft does require you to already have access to an iron, towel, and parchment paper at home. Our Makerspace Coordinator Anneliese Lomas will help you design your customized decal the week before the Custom Iron-On Face Mask kits are available. Decals must be limited to 3 letters in length and simple images only, such as animals or initials. If your proposed decal is too intricate we will ask that you choose a simpler image so you can properly iron it on. (Colors will vary) You must register and submit your proposed decal by September 28th. Supplies are limited and we will let you know when your kit is available for pick up!

Conversations: Truth, Myth, & Democracy - Virtual Program
7:30 PM - 9:00 PM

An Evening of Discussion with Dr. Yuval Levin and Dr. William Galston, Moderated by WCSU Psychology Professor Dr. Daniel Barrett
September 30, 7:30PM

The Weston Public Library is pleased to partner with The Mark Twain Library and the Redding League of Women Voters for  the third installment of the series “Conversations: Truth, Myth & Democracy” with Dr. Yuval Levin of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and Dr. William Galston of the Brookings Institution, moderated by Western Connecticut State University's Dr. Daniel Barrett. This virtual discussion is between two noted social and political thinkers who will examine the causes and consequences of a divided America and explore how a revival of some of the principles of our political tradition can contribute to solving our national challenges.

The Conversations series is a grassroots effort that continues to examine the underlying meaning of our democracy and how democracy matters even when we have different ideas about what it should look like.  The focus is on addressing the difficult issues of truth telling and myth busting by bringing much-needed community conversations to help promote education, informed dialogue and civil discourse. The series is brought to you in association with Easton Public Library, Newtown's C.H. Booth Library, Ridgefield Library, Weston Public Library,  The League of Women Voters of Ridgefield and the League of Women Voters of Northern Fairfield County.

Registered participants will receive a Zoom invitation on the day of the program. If you include your cell phone number on the registration form, you will receive one text reminder, with Zoom link, 15-30 minutes before the program begins.  Webinar waiting room opens at 7:00 pm and program begins at 7:30 pm.

For more information and to register, please visit the Mark Twain Library website here

Kids will cackle, hoot, and do the mummy throughout the whole show!

About: Turtle Dance Music is a children's music company dedicated to furthering child development through arts-integration, music, and educational entertainment. We spark children's curiosity and imaginations through interactive, inclusive musical performances that use a wide range of instruments, comedy and music technology. Our sensory-friendly performances are geared for Pre-K, grades K-5 and students on the Autism Spectrum. Our performances are also accessible to parents, teachers and librarians who want to have a great time with their kids and laugh a lot! Turtle Dance Music believes that your kids are capable of doing extraordinary things. We Help Kids Come Out Of Their Shells!

Our Mission: To further early childhood development and autism intervention through incredible, affordable and fun sensory-friendly shows and assemblies. Our goal is to engage children with important social, emotional and educational topics. We believe that education happens both in and out of the classroom. Every child, regardless of developmental ability or socioeconomic status, should have a right to learn and grow to their fullest potential. Arts-integration in education is a vital tool for expanding young minds and building new, exciting connections between children and the world around them. At Turtle Dance Music, we strive to create a joyful musical experience that supports the teachers, librarians, principals and parents who teach and engage children every day. Our focus is to help the children, as well as the adults, come out of their shells.

Navigating College Admissions Successfully and the Importance of Community Service
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Navigating College Admissions Successfully and the Importance of Community Service

Tuesday, October 26: 7:00-8:00 PM via ZOOM. Hosted by Stand Out for College, LLC.

For High School Students and their Parents. Registration Required to get link.

We are offering this Zoom presentation to help families understand how COVID-19 has changed the college admissions landscape and how it will affect Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen.

This recent college admissions cycle has turned out to be the most competitive to date. The reason is that most colleges went test-optional due to the pandemic and colleges increased their virtual outreach to high school students resulting in a record number of candidates applying. With record high numbers of applications come record low acceptance rates at many popular colleges and universities.

As many colleges have announced that they will continue to be test-optional at least in the short term, applicants will face a similarly challenging admissions environment.

We will discuss the holistic admissions review process and focus on the greater consideration admissions officers are giving to extracurricular activities as most students will have had a year and a quarter or more of grades earned during remote/hybrid learning which will carry less weight when applications are reviewed.

This program covers how admissions officers are handling the current situation and how students can position themselves to develop a compelling narrative to increase their chances for admission.

We will also discuss the importance of community service, how it can provide an opportunity for personal growth and an opportunity to showcase a student’s character. Admissions officers place great emphasis on a student’s character and how the student has been able to give back and help others, especially during these challenging times.

The presentation will be led by Ron Feuchs and Jackie Tepper, partners at Stand Out For College, LLC. (www.standoutforcollege.com)
