Winter Stem: Snowstorm in a Jar

Karen Siegel is a visual artist and educator. She teaches at Silvermine Arts Center, Brookfield Craft Center,Wainwright House,the Weston Library and throughout Connecticut. Karen has exhibited her work at the Carriage Arts Barn, Silvermine Art Gallery and the Wooster Gallery. She teaches watercolor, acrylic, oil sticks, and all media. What is book spine poetry? It is simple. Stack your books in a way that when you read the titles on the spine from top to bottom, they make a poem.

Join Miss Alessandra as she shows you how you can do a cool science project at home. Follow her step-by-step guide and do it yourself!

Cookie Decorating
Friday, February 12 @ 4:00 PM via Zoom. Registration required per family.
Register for our cookie decorating progrram. Join us on Zoom on Febraury 12th to get instructions on how to decorate pre-made valentine cookies. The best part? We provide everything you need (but the oven and pans). Families that register will be able to pick up a cookie decorating kit that will include cookie cutter shapes, a roll of cookie dough, frosting, food coloring, fondant, and piping bags. Miss Alessandra will instruct you on how to make frosting colors, how to different frosting tips with your piping bags, and how to roll fondant to make small cookie decorations. All you have to do is bake them before the program and make sure they have had time to cool.
Please only register for a kit if you plan to attend our interactive zoom portion of this program. Limit of 1 kit per family. Pickup of kits is the week of February 1-5 during our open hours of 10am-4pm. Let us know your name when you get here and we will get you your pre-made kit and refrigerated cookie dough.

The Friends of Weston Library welcome ArtScapades for a series of lectures you can watch in your own home…via ZOOM!
Here’s what you have to do….go to westonpubliclibrary.org and register through their calendar, and you will receive a link to join to watch East Meets West: From Japonism to Impressionism.
Just before 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16th, make yourself comfortable, grab a drink, maybe even your dinner, and click on the link you were sent to join the ZOOM presentation…then sit back and watch East Meets West.
ArtScapades will look at the influence of Japanese art and culture on French and American Impressionism. This lecture begins with a look at two of Japan’s master printmakers, Hokusai and Hiroshige, and will then move on to discuss their influence on well known names of the Impressionist movement including Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, William Merritt Chase and Childe Hassam.
The series continues on Tuesday, March 16th with a lecture titled Fauvism and Beyond: From Color to Form which will look at the art of Henri Matisse and André Derain.
Robin Hoffman and Jodi Stiffelman, of ArtScapades, began teaching art appreciation in 1998. They have presented at libraries and museums in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, and Florida.
