Magazine Beads for Teens

Laser Cut Jack-O-Lanterns

Since putting actual pumpkins in our laser cutter would be too messy, we're going to make wooden jack-o-lanterns. You'll design your own jack-o-lantern to be cut out on the laser cutter. Then we’ll assemble and paint the pumpkins. These pumpkins are great because they will not rot, so you can use them for years!

Laser Cut Jack-O-Lanterns

Since putting actual pumpkins in our laser cutter would be too messy, we're going to make wooden jack-o-lanterns. You'll design your own jack-o-lantern to be cut out on the laser cutter. Then we’ll assemble and paint the pumpkins. These pumpkins are great because they will not rot, so you can use them for years!

Come join quilters and people who enjoy sewing at the Collaboratory the third Wednesday evening of each month from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.  Bring your unfinished projects, either machine or hand sewing to work on or just stop by to get ideas for you next project.  There are 4 portable sewing machines (or bring your own) and there are also lots of tools to share including rotary blades, cutting mats,  cutting table, scissors, rulers, and  more!  Be sure to view the long arm machine and the Juki sewing machine, both require training and will need to be reserved when you plan to use them. Enjoy a fun evening of sharing and learning!

Needle Felting Fun

Halloween Needle Felting

Welcome the Holidays With Your Handmade Wreath

Create a one-of-a-kind wreath to kick off the holiday season. All supplies are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own gardening/work gloves, pliers, and pruners. In addition, you may bring and share the following natural materials from your own yards (8" or longer pieces will be best): 

Evergreens--needled or broadleaved--such as pine, fir, spruce, rhododendron, mountain laurel, holly, boxwood, ivy, etc.

Berries: holly, winterberry, rosehips, juniper, etc.

Dried seed heads: flower, weed, ornamental grass, etc.

Cones: pine, fir, spruce, etc.

Instructor Jude Hsiang has been exploring the use of plants to add color to her knitting and weaving projects for four decades. A UConn Extension Advanced Master Gardener, she is an instructor and county coordinator for the program. She also works at Broken Arrow Nursery and is a member of the boards of the Experiment Station Associate and Connecticut Botanical Society.

Instead, we will be constructing one using parts cut out on our laser cutter, and then decorating them using paints and other decorations. Wear Nature's Colors: An Introduction to Natural Dyes

This workshop will introduce the ancient craft of using plant material--from common garden plants to exotic materials and techniques--to dye textiles. Participants will tie-dye a silk scarf to take home while learning how to add color to their clothing and surroundings with ease, low cost, safety and environmental sensitivity.

Alcohol Ink Ornaments

Create your own colorful, custom ornaments by using alcohol inks to give plain ball ornaments a stained glass effect. 

All materials provided. Open to adults and teens in grades 9 and above. This program is also being held on Tuesday, December 18 at 7:00. You may only register for one session.
