Take-Home Kit: Learn to Weave

Weaving is one of the oldest forms of making things there is (in fact, the earliest evidence of weaving dates back about 27,000 years). Now you can learn how to weave with this kit! All you need at home is a pair of scissors. If you have a good time and want to work on a bigger project, the Library has larger looms that you may borrow.

Please select your pickup date on the registration form. Your kit will be available for you on the Supply Kits table outside the rear entrance from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm if you choose a weekday or from 10:00 am to noon if you choose a Saturday.

Talking TED @ Home
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join librarian Cindy Haiken to watch and discuss a popular TED talk on Zoom. Once registered, you will receive your Zoom invitation by email on the morning of the event. In October, we will watch and discuss Heidi Larson's "Rumors, Trust and Vaccines."

Why do people distrust vaccines? Anthropologist Heidi Larson explores how medical rumors originate, spread and fuel resistance to vaccines worldwide. While vaccines cannot escape the "political and social turbulence" that surrounds them, she says, the first step to stopping the spread of disease is to talk to people, listen and build trust.

There is 1 space available.

Virtual Program: Fake News & Information Literacy
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

The Internet is great. It gives us access to so much entertainment and information so easily it can be hard to imagine what we would do without it. The entertainment side of the Internet is relatively harmless but there is a dark side to using the Internet as a primary information source, something we have all heard of: fake news. Fake news is so insidious because it can look so convincing online (and there is so much of it out there). How can we tell the difference? Learn information literacy skills in this lecture-style presentation.

Once registered, you will receive an invitation to the Zoom meeting via email on the day of the event.
