Introduction to the Collaboratory

This class will teach you about all the resources we have available for you, answer any questions you have, and show you examples of what you can do with the technology.

Come join quilters and people who enjoy sewing at the Collaboratory the third Wednesday evening of each month from 5:00PM to 9:00PM.  Bring your unfinished projects, either machine or hand sewing to work on or just stop by to get ideas for you next project.  There are 4 portable sewing machines (or bring your own) and there are also lots of tools to share including rotary blades, cutting mats,  cutting table, scissors, rulers, and  more!  Be sure to view the long arm machine and the Juki sewing machine, both require training and will need to be reserved when you plan to use them. Enjoy a fun evening of sharing and learning!

Hands-On Science for Adults
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Prepare to dive into the world of science by participating in some fun, dynamic, exciting experiments with science teacher Jerry Nash. Drawing from the many branches of the Tree of Science, Mr Nash will share simple chemistry, physics, optics, weather, and STEM activities with participants. The hope is to make science fun and engaging and bring some enthusiastic learning to Wallingford Public Library! 
 
Jerry Nash, Lower School Science Teacher at Ridgefield Academy for the past 10 years. Former Head Scientist for High Touch High Tech of CT, a leading innovator in science based school programs. Mr Nash has collaborated with Whole Foods, Sesame Street, Industrial Light and Magic and numerous schools, camps and other organizations throughout CT and NY.

Tiny Solar

Join members of NESIT Makerspace to discover the Tiny Solar revolution.  Tiny Solar uses small solar panels to power or charge your cell phones, audio players, radios, outdoor lighting and many other high tech devices. We'll start with an overview of how it works, what's commercially available, and what can be re-purposed for applications other than intended. We'll finish up with a solar powered patio light project, just in time for your summer fun.

Summer Bike Tune-Up
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Get your bike in shape for the rest of the summer!  Hopefully you’ll be on your way with just a little air in your tires, but Wallingford resident and bike commuter, Jared Liu, will be on-hand to demonstrate some simple repairs and empower you to work on your own bike throughout the season.  The workshop will focus on whatever is needed to get your bike going, and will likely include simple repairs for: wheels (tubes, tires, mounting, and spokes), drivetrain (chains, pedals, and gears), fit (seat and handlebar positioning), and cables (brakes and shifting). Adult and kids' bikes welcome.

Drop-in anytime on a first-come, first-served basis during this two-hour session.  Weather permitting, we will meet outside on the sidewalk by the rear entrance.

Introduction to 3D Printing for Teens

Meet other Teens and learn the basics of 3D printing!  In this class students will learn all about our 3D printer – the Ultimaker2.  After this class you will be able to find objects to print and edit them to your specification, understand how to scale objects, and add support to them.  Each student will get to print one object of their choice.  First time participants only, please.  Open to Teens in grades 6-12.  Registration is required.
