Big Ideas Book Club Kit: Kindness and Caring

Families with children up to age 8 | Kit | Registration Required

This is an inclusive book club kit for families who want to introduce their kids to big ideas through developmentally appropriate books, discussion, and activities. Books included in kits will be checked out to your library card.

For those registred, kits will be available for pick up under your name in the Children's Room anytime from January 24th - January 29th.

Virtual Reading Buddies

Spend a Friday evening reading with a high school buddy! Choate student volunteers will join us to do some group read-alouds, small group reading practice, and other fun activities. 

Please note, this program will begin at 6:45pm. A Google Meet link will be emailed out to all participants on the day of the program. This program is offered in conjunction with Choate Rosemary Hall and the Wallingford Rotary Interact Club.

Wallingford Public Schools is proud to offer a weekly playgroup for preschool age children. Children will have the opportunity to socialize with peers from town. Additionally, each week the resource center will have professionals available to support families with questions including an early childhood special education teacher and school psychologist. Additional staff (speech and language pathologists, ocupational therapists and physical therapists) will be available alternating weeks. 

This playgroup is for Wallingford families only. Families must fill out a Registration Form before attending.

STEAM Story Time @ Home: Pizza!

Ages 3-7 | Kit | Registration Required

It’s STEAM for younger kids! National Pizza Day is February 9 so our theme is pizza! Kits will include materials for 3 activities and a book checked out on your card. For this kit each family will need flour, yeast, oil, salt, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, and any pizza toppings you like from home.

Girls Who Code Club

This program is part of a series. One registration will sign you up for all six dates: 2/16, 3/2, 3/16, 3/30, 4/13, 4/27.

Come learn to code and change the world! Girls Who Code Clubs are spaces where kids can join our sisterhood of supportive peers and use computer science to change the world. No coding experience necessary. This club is inclusive to all genders.

Registrants will receive an email with an invitation to join the Wallingford Public Library Girls Who Code Club online. Please bring your username and password to the Club meetings.

Maple Sugaring Demonstration

Bundle up the whole family and join Trumbull Nature & Arts Center in front of the library for a live maple sugaring demonstration! Watch as they tap one of the library's own maple trees and boil sap into syrup, all while learning the story behind maple sugaring in New England and it's Native American origins, the amazing science of sap flow, and the differences between grades of syrup. All ages welcome!

WECARE Workshop: Developing Young Children’s Oral Language Skills

Preschool Parents & Teachers | Registration Required

Find out about oral language – that is, speaking and listening – and what language has to do with learning to read and write. Learn some fun activities that you can do to enrich children’s language experiences at home, in libraries, and in preschool classrooms. 

When registering, you will be able to choose whether you’d like to attend the program in person or via Zoom. For those who select Zoom, the link will be sent out on the day of the program.

Part 2 of this workshop will be offered Tuesday, March 29th. While it is not required, we encourage you to attend both.

Additionally, each week the resource center will have professionals available to support families with questions including an early childhood special education teacher and school psychologist. Additional staff (speech and language pathologists, ocupational therapists and physical therapists) will be available alternating weeks. 

This playgroup is for Wallingford families only. Families must fill out a Registration Form before attending.

One Book, One Wallingford - 'Transcendent Kingdom' by Yaa Gyasi

AUTHOR TALK AND BOOK SIGNING

Meet Yaa Gyasi as she discusses her award-winning book, Transcendent Kingdom. Books will be available for purchase and signing. Stop by the library to get your free ticket!

Yaa Gyasi is a Ghanaian-American novelist. Raised in Huntsville, Alabama, Gyasi received a BA in English from Stanford University and an MFA from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. She is a National Book Foundation “5 under 35 honoree. Her debut novel Homegoing won the National Book Critics Circle’s John Leonard Award for best first book, and was longlisted for the Dylan Thomas Prize. It also won the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award, an American Book Award, and the Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Literature.


The goal of One Book, One Wallingford is to bring the community together in reading and discussing the same book. This annual celebration features lectures, public programs, and book discussions throughout the months of February and March and will culminate in a visit from the author on April 4, 2022. Wallingford Public Schools is proud to offer a weekly playgroup for preschool age children. Children will have the opportunity to socialize with peers from town. Additionally, each week the resource center will have professionals available to support families with questions including an early childhood special education teacher and school psychologist. Additional staff (speech and language pathologists, ocupational therapists and physical therapists) will be available alternating weeks. 

This playgroup is for Wallingford families only. Families must fill out a Registration Form before attending.

Girls Who Code Club

This program is part of a series. One registration will sign you up for all six dates: 2/16, 3/2, 3/16, 3/30, 4/13, 4/27.

Come learn to code and change the world! Girls Who Code Clubs are spaces where kids can join our sisterhood of supportive peers and use computer science to change the world. No coding experience necessary. This club is inclusive to all genders.

Registrants will receive an email with an invitation to join the Wallingford Public Library Girls Who Code Club online. Please bring your username and password to the Club meetings.

Find out about some ways you can help young children regulate their emotions through the use of mindfulness. Learn some easy tools, strategies, and picture books you can incorporate into your preschool classrooms to help promote more mindful behavior.
