Marketing the Presidency: Memories and Memorabilia
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

When most folks hear the word “marketing”, they think of it as a relatively modern term. However, in terms of presidential candidates, from George Washington to today, candidates have been marketing themselves and their ideas from the beginning.

Join the library for a special presentation that focuses on the odd artifacts which campaigns have produced to spotlight their candidate’s name in front of the electorate. Some of the items include a James Monroe snuff box promoting the Monroe Doctrine, a Teddy Roosevelt cast iron door stop, an Eisenhower bar of soap reading “Clean Up With Ike”, and a Richard Nixon shower head!

Take a stroll with us down Memorabilia Lane for an afternoon of political, whimsical, and historical fun!

If you love the idea of book clubs but not the traditional logistics, than this group is for you!

If you like in-person discussions, join us at Spoonwood Brewing Company on the last Tuesday of the month from 7-8pm. Enjoy good beer, food, and friends - all while discussing great books!

Plus, you can even engage with our in-person group on Tuesday nights! Our librarian will be posting live throughout the meet up. Read along with us and share your opinions of the book!

For more information, join the group online at www.facebook.com/groups/WPLbookclub

This month, we are reading Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline.

Alternating between contemporary Maine and Depression-era Minnesota, Orphan Train tells the tale of two very different women who build an unexpected friendship: a 91-year-old woman with a hidden past as an orphan-train rider, and the teenage girl whose own troubled adolescence leads her to seek answers to questions no one has ever thought to ask. A #1 international bestseller, published in 40 countries - this historical novel is compulsive and moving.
