This week's selection is Missing Link

Meet Mr. Link : 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur.  But don't let his appearance fool you... he is funny, sweet, and adorably literal, making him the world's most lovable legend. Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La.  Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect. (Rotten Tomatoes)

Dispatches of D-Day: A Talk with Jared Frederick
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Spring 1944. The world held its breath as hundreds of thousands of Allied combatants leapt across the English Channel in the largest amphibious operation of the Second World War.  The Normandy invasion, legendary in myth and astounding in scope, comes to life as historian Jared Frederick resurrects long-forgotten tales of individual struggle, sacrifice, and community.  In his new book, Dispatches of D-Day, Frederick unearths hundreds of accounts from period newspapers and revives the lost voices of the momentous struggle to liberate Western Europe from Nazi tyranny.

Join us as Mr. Frederick paints an eloquently moving portrait of the soldiers and home front civilians who were dramatically affected by what Dwight Eisenhower called “the great crusade.”  In this sweeping presentation, readers will embark upon a journey as the powerful saga of the D-Day experience unfolds with insightful interpretation and profoundly enduring lessons.

*Signed copies of the book will be sold for $23.00*

Pittsburgh's Lost Outpost: A Talk with Jason Cherry
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

In the year 1754, before a young George Washington would set the world on fire, trader William Trent and his hired volunteers began an outpost at the "forks of the Ohio”.  This simple act would not only lay the foundation for the conflict known as the Seven Years War, but also became the early remnants of the city we know today as Pittsburgh.

Join author Jason Cherry for a spirited picture presentation about his book, Pittsburgh’s Lost Outpost.  In it, he explores recently uncovered details about the lost outpost and pieces together Trent’s eventual role in American history!

Signed books will be on sale for $20.00.  Cash and credit card accepted.

Bio: A native of Butler, Pennsylvania, and 2002 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Jason Cherry has reenacted the French and Indian War for almost 30 years, portraying the group of volunteers hired under William Trent Jr in 1754, a unit known as Captain William Trent's Company.  He also has conducted several speaking engagements over the last 15 years on George Washington's role in Western Pennsylvania in 1753 and 1754.  Currently he is the "resident author" for the William Trent House in Trenton, NJ and works as an Assistant Group Supervisor for Stepping Stones Children's Center in Gibsonia, PA and reenacts with his wife Emily and his two beautiful daughters Penny and Charlotte.

More Information: The “Better Choices, Better Health” program helps adults manage the symptoms of chronic diseases such as arthritis, heart disease, stroke, asthma, lung disease, diabetes, osteoporosis, and other conditions.  Developed by Stanford University, this evidence-based program is held weekly for 2 ½ hours for six weeks.

The workshop sessions are taught by trained and certified peer leaders, many of whom also have chronic conditions. This creates an environment of mutual support, which builds participants’ confidence in their ability to manage their health and lead active lives.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

· Employ techniques to deal with isolation, frustration, fatigue, and pain

· Practice suitable exercises for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance

· Use medications appropriately

· Communicate effectively with family, friends, and health professionals

· Apply healthy eating and nutrition tips to their diet

Keystone Stories: A Visit with Brian Lockman
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

To celebrate forty years of Pennsylvania Cable Network, the library welcomes President and CEO Brian Lockman to discuss his popular program, PA Books!

For more than twenty years and over 800 episodes, Mr. Lockman has interviewed authors to discuss the historical and cultural legacies of the Keystone State. From the American Revolution to the post-industrial present, and including some of the area’s most famous citizens like W.C. Fields and Andrew Mellon, PA Books is a living document of everything we were then and are now.

Brian will share some of his favorite books and will tell of some lesser-known scenes from our state’s rich history.

Come be a part of local history – right now!

Mystery Book Club
10:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Are you thrilled by a good mystery?

Join the Mystery Book Group! We meet once per month to discuss the hottest whodunnits. This month, we will be discussing: Whose Body? by Dorothy Sayers

Lord Peter Wimsey spends his days tracking down rare books, and his nights hunting killers. Though the Great War has left his nerves frayed with shellshock, Wimsey continues to be London’s greatest sleuth—and he’s about to encounter his oddest case yet.

A strange corpse has appeared in a suburban architect’s bathroom, stark naked save for an incongruous pince-nez. When Wimsey arrives on the scene, he is confronted with a once-in-a-lifetime puzzle. The police suspect that the bathtub’s owner is the murderer, but Wimsey’s investigation quickly reveals that the case is much stranger than anyone could have predicted.

Published in 1923, during detective fiction’s Golden Age, Whose Body? introduced a character and a series that would make Dorothy L. Sayers famous. To this day, Lord Peter remains 1 of the genre’s most beloved and brilliant characters.
