Baby Birds, Their Nests & Creating with Clay

Participants will observe many different types of real bird’s nests from out nest collection. This will allow them to feel and learn about the natural materials that birds use to make nests. After listening to a story about a mother robin caring for her nest and observing the real nests, each child-caregiver pair will then make their own nest out of natural material. The nest will be self-contained in a paper bowl. Once the nest is made, each child will use air dried clay to sculpt several eggs and one parent bird to place in their nest. Each group will get to keep their nest and once the clay dries, they will be able to paint the eggs and birds.

Ages 3-6. Please sign up.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Whitman Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

John Root presents Edible Perennial Gardening and Landscaping

“Edible Perennial Gardening and Landscaping”
is a power point presentation featuring the variety of trees, shrubs, vines, canes, and herbaceous perennials that can be grown in New England for bountiful harvests of fruits, nuts, and vegetables. Participants learn how to establish and care for these plants using organic methods of cultivation. Nutritional and medicinal benefits of the plants are discussed as well. Questions and comments are welcome throughout the presentation, and handouts with a list of edible perennial plant species, resources for further study, and recommended plant nurseries are distributed at the conclusion of the program.
