Music and the Brain: Linking Melody and the Mind with Dr. Vincent de Luise
7:00 PM

Music surrounds us. It is part of who we are as humans. Why do all cultures have music? Why is a certain scale, the pentatonic scale, found in all cultures? Can music actually be beneficial to us? Can it improve our cognition? Can music be used as a healing art, to be employed as an alternative form of medicine? How does music help people with Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, or stroke? Can muisc heal? Dr. Vincent de Louise presents "Music and the Brain: Linking Melody and the Mind" at the WPL and explains many different effects music has on the mind. The program is open to all but registration is required.

Dr. de Luise is an assistant professor of ophthalmology at Yale University School of Medicine, and on the adjunct faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College, wehre he serves on the Humanities and Medicine Committee and the Music and Medicine Initiative.
