Afternoon Meditation
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Mindful meditation is simple and can positively impact our health and sense of wellbeing. The hardest part is making time to practice. Whether you are learning for the first time or have been practicing for years, feel free to join these one-hour guided meditation practices. These mini-retreats begin with a brief explanation of the style of meditation to be practiced in that session. There will be a few minutes for Q & A and then practice will begin.  Bring your own mat or cushion.

Led by Ginny Wholley, an experienced leader and coach who was trained by the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Wholley has decades of personal practice and teaching yoga and meditation.

Disarming the Nuclear Argument with Timmons Wallis
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Join author Timmon Wallis for a discussion and book signing of Disarming the Nuclear Argument: The Truth About Nuclear Weapons, which analyzes the cost, risk, and legality of nuclear weapons, and the absurdity of the whole concept of perpetuating nuclear weapons as “deterrence.” The book played a role in the successful July 2017 United Nations negotiations for a Nuclear Ban Treaty, and it is a handbook for those seeking a safer, saner world.

Timmon Wallis holds a PhD in Peace Studies from Bradford University and is the Executive Director of NuclearBan.US. He has served as executive director of Nonviolent Peaceforce, and he has directed peace-building projects in over a dozen countries.

Outer Space Research with Professor Les Blatt
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

What do we know about the shape of the universe?  How are the galaxies arranged with respect to one another?  Is there a center, and, if so, what is located there? And how do we know all of this, anyway?  Space scientists, astronomers, and physicists have been assembling pieces of these big puzzles for many years.  I’ll present a few of their findings, along with some of the open questions still waiting to be answered.

Les Blatt has done research in nuclear physics, astrophysics, and science education at The Ohio State University, Indiana University, Clark University, and l’Université Louis Pasteur, and is a former physics department chair and dean of graduate studies and research.  He currently teaches mini-courses at the WISE Program (Worcester Institute for Senior Education) at Assumption College, and sings with the Worcester Chorus.

Author Event with Jean M. Grant
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Author of four novels and several magazine articles, Grant was initially a scientist but made the switch to full-time writer in 2017.  Join us as she discusses her motto of the “3 Ps”: patience, perseverance, and putting in time with writing. While her articles focus on family travel, her books cross genres including Scottish romances, the paranormal, and contemporary women’s fiction.  At the heart of all her fiction are stories of heartache, healing, and hope.

Grant will share her experiences with writing, using travel for her research, and the process of getting published.  Books will be available for purchase and signing.
