From 1895 to  1908 one of the largest civil engineering projects in New England history transformed four Massachusetts towns, creating Boston’s first truly modern water supply system. One of the last hand dug reservoirs, the building of Wachusett stretched the bounds of 19th Century engineering and included human turmoils such as strikes, murders, and accidental deaths of more than 30 workers.

Hear the dramatic story of visionaries, townsfolk, and immigrant laborers that made the Wachusett Reservoir a reality from local historian Eamon McCarthy Earls, author of Wachusett: How Boston's 19th Century Quest for Water Changed Four Towns and a Way of Life.
