Learn how to install and manage your apps, customize your phone using settings changes and widget installations, take advantage of expandable storage, use google tools, and much more!


Curious about felting but not sure where to start? Come find out how to create your own felted body scrubber with the soap included! We will also learn hand needle felting by making a felted pin or two using wool roving.

This class will teach students how to burn computer files to a CD or DVD, an essential skill for backing up pictures, documents, or other important information. The basics of working with music, data, and video files, as well as CD/DVD copying, will be discussed. The class works in a Windows 10 environment but attention will be paid to the issues that come up when burning CDs with an older operating system.

Time for Toys is an informal program giving parents with small children the opportunity to meet and talk with other parents, while children play with toys and games. Provided toys and games are appropriate for children ages 3 months to 5 years.


Retired Army Colonel Jill Morgenthaler is a woman of many firsts. She was one of the first women to enter an experimental class for women in the U.S. Army ROTC and train as an equal with men. Overcoming obstacles, she was the first woman Battalion Commander in the 88th Regional Support Command Division, the first Brigade Commander in the 84th Division and then rose to the rank of Colonel. She was also the first woman to run homeland security for the state of Illinois. During her military career, Colonel Jill led hundreds of men and women around the world in war and peace, and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit for her lifelong leadership.
Now, after 30 years of success in high-stakes fast moving environments, Colonel Jill shares her leadership secrets with the world. Join us for an entertaining talk by this best-selling author and military pioneer in honor of Memorial Day.

Al Capone and the 1933 World’s Fair: The End of the Gangster Era in Chicago is a historical look at Chicago during the darkest days of the Great Depression. The story of Chicago fighting the hold that organized crime had on the city to be able to put on The 1933 World’s Fair. The Conservation Foundation will do a presentation on the benefits of planting native plants in our gardens and communities. In this slide presentation they will cover the use of native vs. non-native plants, the importance of pollinator insects, and planting to reduce water consumption and run-off.

In this presentation designed for a science-interested audience, we will put the politics to the side and focus, instead, on the science evidence: What does science say is happening? Where does the data come from? What might be in our future?

In 2018, the beloved novel Little Women celebrates its 150th birthday. Mark the occasion with Leslie Goddard's living-history portrayal of celebrated author Louisa May Alcott. As Miss Alcott shares stories about the creation of Little Women, she also reminisces about her life, including her poverty-stricken childhood, her struggles to succeed as a writer, and the unexpected, phenomenal success of Little Women in 1868.

Dressed in traditional Ojibwa regalia, author Kim Sigafus will share her knowledge of many aspects of Native American cultures.
Kim will discuss Native people who lived in Illinois in the 1800s and their traditions. She will describe Native American foodways, including the planting of the Three Sisters: corn, beans, and squash. Drumming and singing, she will share a traditional lullaby with the audience and will teach them a song. They will learn some Native American language and be able to view and handle Native artifacts. There will be opportunities for audience participation, including an invitation into a drum and rain stick circle.

More than a century ago, artists Charles Russell, Frederic Remington and George Catlin expressed the spirit of the Old West in paintings and sculptures. In this slide lecture, art historian Jeff Mishur discusses key works by these artists and relates them to the larger context of American art. Mishur is the co-owner of Art Excursions, a business providing private guiding, small group tours, travel consulting and lectures on various topics. Mishur holds an M.A. in the history of art from Northern Illinois University and has taught at the university level for more than twenty-five years.

The music in the program reflects the story of Illinois, which is shaped not only by the land (prairie, Great Lakes, Mississippi River), but also by the many cultures which have thrived in it, beginning with Native Americans, and including French, German, African-American, Mexican, and other immigrant groups. Scheduled stops on the tour include a coin-operated fire-breathing dragon, a 2-story outhouse, Punkin Chunkin, and vehicles in unorthodox places.

The Great Decisions discussion program is a civic education program administered and produced by the Foreign Policy Association. In preparation for the discussion, participants read the relevant chapter on a particular foreign policy issue in the Great Decisions briefing book that will be available for check out. A short DVD will be shown followed by a moderated discussion among the participants.
