Do you knit or crochet?  Would you like to put your skills to use to make a positive difference in someone's life?

This summer the Marple Library is looking for volunteers to knit or crochet lap blankets or “lapghans.” These blankets will be donated to our Homebound patrons in the fall.  Our goal is to collect and donate 40 lap blankets. Please let us know if you are able to help us reach our goal.  If you’d like to meet other knitters please come to the Knitting Group on Fridays at 10:30am.

Please contact Bridgette at 610-356-1510 with any questions.

MEDITATION SATURDAYS
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

The Ridley Township Public Library is offering a free Basic Meditation Workshop led by Rich Conti from the Schoolhouse Center Meditation Group. Participants are free to stay for the entire 2 hours, or may choose to leave after 1 hour or more. In this workshop,  you will learn all you need to practice meditation on your own, at home.

Meditation requires no extensive training, preparation or effort. It is simple, easy and anyone can do it. A simple commitment of a few minutes a day can make a real difference in a person’s life by helping to clear the mind and reduce stress. The best way to learn about meditation is for someone to show you what to do and how to do it.

PAWS for Reading @ MFL
6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

"PAWS for Reading is a program that allows children to read aloud to a therapy dog (or cat, or bunny!) in order to improve reading and communication skills. Children read individually to trained therapy pets (and their handlers) in schools, libraries, or other settings where they can feel comfortable and confident — and have fun! After all, a dog will not correct them or make them feel awkward if they stumble."

MFL is now a participating library in PAWS for Reading program! We have enough spaces per visit for 12 kids/readers. We recommend ages 5+ (or any one who can read aloud), but younger siblings can join!

Summer Dates for PAWS for Reading:

***CLICK ON THE DATE(S) YOU'D LIKE TO REGISTER FOR***

Readers are limited to 10 minutes of reading aloud to a pet, but can read on their own or color while waiting. Register to reserve a spot for your young reader using his/her name. Click "Add Guest" to add spot(s) for siblings.

The 10-minute time slots will be done on a first come, first to sign up on site at the library on the day of the visit.

World's Greatest Paintings: Video Lecture Series
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Join us as we take you on a tour of the World's Greatest Paintings!

Great paintings challenge us to understand them, to penetrate their mysteries, and to appreciate their riches. But within the vast history of art, there exist only a small number of paintings that transcend the traditional role of art to become cultural signifiers—works that allow us to comprehend more deeply the world and our place within it.

This video lecture series will take place over 8 weeks; come for all 8 pieces or just choose your favorite artist's portion!

August 10: Giotto, Duccio, Van Eyck...

August 17: Botticelli, Bellini, Durer, Da Vinci, Raphael...

August 24: Michelangelo, Grunewald, Titian, El Greco, Bruegel, Carravagio...

August 31: Rubens, Vermeer, Velazquez, Rembrandt, Hals, La Tour...

September 7: Poussin, Claude, Watteau, Goya...

September 14: Delacroix, Monet, Whistler, Degas...

September 21: Sargent, Manet, Seurat, Cezanne, Van Gogh...

September 28: Picasso, Gorky, Pollock...

This Great Courses lecture is presented by Professor William Kloss, M.A., Independent Art Historian

Refreshments will be served.

This program has been made possible by a grant for Aging in Place Services from Swarthmore Borough.

Keeping it in the Family.

Parent - child writing duos are an increasingly common phenomenom.  We're taking a look at two of the more recent pairs.  Next on our list - a father daughter duo - Alifair and James Lee Burke.

When Aaron Holland Broussard spots the beautiful and gifted Valerie Epstein fighting with her boyfriend, Grady Harrelson, at a  Galveston drive-in, he inadvertently challenges the power of the Mob and one of the richest families in Texas. He also discovers he must  find the courage his father had found as an American soldier in the Great War.

                                                                                                           From the publisher's description.
