Mother Goose on the Loose
10:00 AM - 10:45 AM

Join the happy circle with Kay Lyons at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under (with a grown-up!) every Friday morning at the GPL.  Children's Librarian Kay Lyons reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts to the very young.  Children and grown-ups shake rattles, tap rhythm sticks, wave colored scarves, ring bells, and do knee bounces to simple sing-along tunes that everyone learns together.

Go on the loose with Mother Goose!  It's so much fun!  Each session is 45 minutes, 30 minutes of structured activity and 15 minutes of visiting time.  No sign-up is required and the program is free of charge, thanks to the Friends of the GPL.

Movie Night at GPL
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join us for our movie series linked to the First Wednesday Speaker program each month.

This month's selection is Stranger than Fiction.  A novelist (Emma Thompson) struggles to complete her latest, and potentially finest, book — she only has to find a way to kill off her main character, Harold Crick, and she'll be done. Little does she know that Harold Crick (Will Ferrell) is inexplicably alive and well in the real world and suddenly aware of her words. Fiction and reality collide when the bewildered and hilariously resistant Harold hears what she has in mind and realizes he must find a way to change her (and his) ending.

Swipe Left on Your Inner Critic: 5 Techniques for Quieting the Voice of Unhelpful Judgment
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Is there a voice inside your head that sometimes tells you that you’re not good enough? Through wise and wise-cracking stories and easy-to-do, fun interactive exercises, President and Founder of Happier Valley Comedy Pam Victor provides practical and immediately-applicable techniques for “swiping left” - disempowering - the inner critic, so you can better reach your full potential and live with more joy and ease. So ask yourself this: “How would your life change if you stopped listening to the internal voice of unhelpful judgment?” In this presentation, you can find out ... and laugh a lot in the process too!

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Greenfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.  It is also supported by the Friends of the Greenfield Public Library.

Lou's Upcycling
6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Participants will learn about upcycling plastic bags through the process of fusing.  Using the heat and pressure of a household iron, a new type of textile is formed from un-recyclable plastic bags and wrappers that would usually be thrown away. This 101 class teaches the basics of plastic bag fusing and each participant will complete a final project using the fused textile. When signing up participants should start to save up their household's cereal and cracker bags and any other plastic bags and wrappers and bring them to use or donate. Guidelines for what can be used are found on Lou's website: http://www.lousupcycles.com/donate-recycle-upcycle/

There is a limit of 15 participants for this free workshop, which is supported in part by a grant from the Greenfield Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass
Cultural Council, a state agency.

Poetry Discussion
10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Let's celebrate spring by reading poems together with friends and neighbors with Slate Roof managing editor Janet MacFadyen and Greenfield poet Mary Clare Powell.

Bring a poem you love, or one that you have questions about! We'll provide a selection of poems as well.

All levels are welcome to an afternoon of relaxed discussion and appreciation, from those who already love poetry to those who have felt shut out. There is no right or wrong response to a poem. This event is an outgrowth of the Massachusetts Poetry Common Threads project, bringing people together to read and talk about poetry from all perspectives and levels.

Aaron Krerowicz: Stairway to Zeppelin
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

When Led Zeppelin II replaced Abbey Road as the #1 album in December of 1969, it symbolized a "passing of the torch" into a new era in popular music. This 60-minute multimedia presentation
observes how 1960s rock bands The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and The Yardbirds paved the way for Led Zeppelin in the 1970s.

Despite being born fifteen years after the band broke up, Aaron Krerowicz worked as a full-time independent professional Beatles scholar from June 2015 through August 2018. He has authored six books about The Beatles, and delivered more than 500 presentations throughout the US, England, and Canada. In addition to the Beatles, Aaron talks about other musical groups, Star Wars and its music, the history of baseball, and origami. For more information, visit his website: AaronKrerowicz.com.
