The New York Experience - A Constant Affair

New York City is a vibrant cultural metropolis, in the forefront of music, theater and art. This lecture offers a virtual survey of the city between 1800 and 1950, as reflected in paintings of its streets, parks, bridges and skyscrapers as well as the daily activities of its people. The artwork of Childe Hassam, Edward Hopper, Max Weber, Ben Shahn and others will be shown.

What you don’t know about Social Security could wind up costing you $$$!  An AARP survey revealed that only half its respondents who were married or had been married were aware that spousal Social Security benefits were available.  This presentation will provide a broad overview of the Social Security program as it pertains to retirees and their beneficiaries while emphasizing spousal and survivor benefits. These auxiliary benefits will be examined and attendees will learn how to optimize payouts using a simple strategy.

Take Flight with Long Island’s Daring and Intrepid Pioneer Women Aviators!

Dr. Natalie Naylor, the president of the Nassau County Historical Society and retired Hofstra University history professor, takes us on a journey through a Universe of Stories about Long Island’s pioneer women pilots:  The first woman aviator flew on Long Island in 1910. Within months, other women were taking flying lessons on the Hempstead Plains and became among the first women licensed aviators. In the late 1920s, a 17-year-old woman from Freeport flew under all four East River bridges! And in 1928, another Long Island woman was responsible for propelling Amelia Earhart to fame.

Excelsior! The Amazing Life of Stan Lee

Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Hulk, Doctor Strange, X-Men, Black Panther, Iron Man, Thor, Ant-Man and Daredevil are known the world over, but how much do you know about the former Long Islander who created them? This program traces Stan Lee's incredible nearly 70-year career that revolutionized comics, literature, the movies and more as he became a household name and turned Marvel Comics into a media empire before his passing in November, 2018 at the age of 95.
