Summary: Vivian Miller is a dedicated CIA counterintelligence analyst assigned to uncover the leaders of Russian sleeper cells in the United States. On track for a much-needed promotion, she's developed a system for identifying Russian agents, seemingly normal people living in plain sight. After accessing the computer of a potential Russian operative, Vivian stumbles on a secret dossier of deep-cover agents within America's borders. A few clicks later, everything that matters to her--her job, her husband, even her four children--are threatened. Vivian has vowed to defend her country against all enemies, foreign and domestic. But now she's facing impossible choices. Torn between loyalty and betrayal, allegiance and treason, love and suspicion, who can she trust? -- Provided by Publisher

From Princeton's humble beginnings as a stage coach stop and tavern halfway between New York City and Philadelphia, it has grown to become a center for learning and culture. George Washington walked its streets and three other United States Presidents James Madison, Woodrow Wilson and Grover Cleveland, lived in Princeton. Thomas Mann, T.S. Eliot and F. Scott Fitzgerald all wrote in Princeton. Actor Paul Robeson spent his childhood here; his father, William Drew Robeson, was pastor of the Witherspoon Street Presbyterian Church. World-renowned scientists Albert Einstein and Robert Oppenheimer made the town their home. It served as the home of the first Continental Congress and as the capitol in 1783. In this virtual tour, you will get a bird's eye view of many of the historic buildings and important sights adorning the town and campus. 750,000 men died in the American Civil War but the tragedy was magnified by disrespectful burial practices where large numbers of bodies were deposited, unidentified, into trenches. Enemy soldiers were frequently not buried at all. This program covers these issues and reports how after the war, Federal and state governments, including large numbers of women, sought to rectify the matter by re-burying them in special cemeteries. This program also covers the issue of statues and monuments.

Join us as Jeanne Johnson, famed for her hour-long-in-depth studies of artists, guides us through the lives and works of Artemisia Gentileschi, Lavinia Fontana and Sofonisba Anguisola. During the 15th and 16th centuries, success followed talented women artists who challenged gender roles and conventions. Now, 400+ years later, these incredible women are receiving global recognition. Artemisia Gentileschi, Lavinia Fontana and Sofonisba Anguisola have all been showcased with international exhibits beginning in 2019. Artemisia, who is described by the BBC as “the Beyonce of art history”, is the first woman in the 196-year history of London’s National Gallery to have a major solo exhibit, with works from museums and private collections across Europe and the United States. She was one of the first women to achieve international recognition during her lifetime. Lavinia and Sofonisba, both extremely successful during their lifetimes, their reputations having languished after their deaths, have been honored with exhibits in Ireland and Spain.
Johnson's interest in art and music have taken her to more than 87 countries in pursuit of her passions. Since retiring from a successful career as a classically trained musician, she has become an active volunteer on several boards and will serve as the next President of the Princeton YWCA Newcomers & Friends.

This month's title is Look Homeward Angel by Thomas Wolfe.
Summary: Look Homeward, Angel is an elaborate and moving coming-of-age story about Eugene Gant, a restless and energetic character whose passion to experience life takes him from his small, rural hometown in North Carolina to Harvard University and the city of Boston. The novel's pattern is artfully simple -- a small town, a large family, high school and college -- yet the characters are monumental in their graphic individualityand personality. Through his rich, ornate prose, Wolfe evokes the extraordinarily vivid family of the Gants, and with equal detail, the remarkable peculiarities of small-town life and the pain and upheaval of a boy who must leave both. A classic work of American literature, Look Homeward, Angel is a passionate, stirring, and unforgettable novel.

The 2020 Census began the process of redistricting, in which states redraw their congressional and legislative districts to reflect population changes. This process, which occurs every ten years, will take on greater visibility than perhaps ever before due to the increased attention to gerrymandering, the practice of drawing maps that favor one political party over another. In class, we will learn the basics of redistricting and the criteria for producing fair districts that reflect a state's demographic and political makeup. All are welcome. No prior knowledge of redistricting or politics is necessary. Presented by Brad Van Arnum, who has a passion for redistricting.

Many people were inspired by Amanda Gorman's poetry reciting at President Joe Biden's Inauguration. When a poem is read in front of a worldwide audience through television and the internet, it is a high-profile example of a 21st-century "occasional poem". When it gives hope to all, unites people from left and right, and has the power to heal different kinds of wounds, it is truly as what the great German poet Goethe declared - "Occasional Poetry is the highest kind." Many great occasional poems commemorate events, mark history and celebrate life. Come and join our MCLS poetry circle discussion to learn more occasional poems from Walt Whitman, Maya Angelou, Seamus Heaney, Carol Ann Duffy, W. H. Auden, Carl Sandberg, Stanley Kunitz, and Bob Dylan. Sharon, a librarian for the Lawrence Branch, will lead the discussion.
