Beyond the Book with Chris Bohjalian
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

For adults. Bestselling author Chris Bohjalian’s latest book, The Red Lotus, is gaining attention because of its prescient pandemic plot. The Friends of the Nashua Public Library hosted Chris at Rivier College at their 2009 Beyond the Book Event. At that time he spoke about his earlier book, Skeletons at the Feast, which was the Nashua Reads selection. Watch it with us; if you’ve never heard Chris speak, you're in for many laughs and quite a treat.

A World of Stories

Creative Guts: Lessons Learned from Podcasting

For grade 6–adults. Creative Guts, a New Hampshire–based podcast focused on the pursuit of creativity, launched in 2019. One year later, hosts Laura Harper Lake and Sarah Wrightsman will share the evolution of their interview-style podcast and how hosting it has started a tiny movement in Southern New Hampshire. Take a sneak peek behind the scenes of podcasting, at both the triumphs savored and the lessons learned.

DIY Cellphone Filters

For grades 6–12. Learn how to make your own cellphone photo filter so all your pictures can look as good and interesting as the ones you post on Insta.

Granite State Bigfoot
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

For grade 6–adults. Filmmaker and cryptozoology researcher Aleksandar Petakov discusses his investigation into strange encounters and sightings of Bigfoot (or Sasquatch) across New Hampshire. His presentation concludes with a screening of his documentary short about an Abenaki researcher, Shyman of the White Mountains, an official selection of the Massachusetts Independent Film Festival.

Fantasy Creature Hand Puppets

For birth–preschool. Imagine a unicorn, dragon, Bigfoot, or werewolf; give it a name; and then make it as cute or as scary as you’d like.

Plant Your Own Beanstalk

For kindergarten–grade 5. With a little potting soil, a seed, and simple decorations, build a beanstalk planter for Jack. Water it daily and watch it reach toward the sky!
