Nature Quest

Are you a nature lover? Here’s your chance to study natural habitats, try out science experiments at home, and visit local parks to learn how water, land, plants, and animals are related. The program will be run by the Nashua River Watershed Association once a month on Saturdays from January through May. Students will attend a one-hour virtual meeting with the group in the morning and in the afternoon go on a 90-minute outdoor guided adventure for students and families in a Nashua park. Black Matter Is Life: Poetry for Engagement and Overcoming

The Nashua Public Library is excited to partner with Black Heritage Trail NH for a virtual winter poetry series, “Black Matter Is Life: Poetry for Engagement and Overcoming.” This is the third event in the series. It will include a poem written by The Black Matter Is Life: Poetry for Engagement and Overcoming. Picture of Black man reading and a starry sky.community members in Greater Nashua.

Join this conversation about how African American poetry sheds light on our nation’s past and present, and on how we might imagine our nation’s future. The series is hosted by UNH Professors Dennis Britton and Reginald Willard. The theme of the January 21 event is “Love, Love, Love.”

Why Native Plant Landscapes Matter

Claudia Thompson, founder and president emerita of Grow Native Massachusetts, will give an overview of the essential role of native plants in ecosystem health, starting with the concept of co-evolution between plants and animals and ending with a tour of her 7,000 sq.-ft. garden in Cambridge. She’ll explain the differences among native, naturalized, and invasive plants, and explore the food web that links plants to insects to birds, wildlife, and humans.
