PAWS for Reading
11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Come read to Buster and his friends!  Certified therapy dogs and their handlers will be on hand to help new readers, struggling readers and those children who just want to read to the dogs.  Therapy dogs don't judge how well you read, they are just happy to listen--which is great for practicing those reading skills without the judgment of a teacher or parent.  Each child is given a 15 minute time slot.    Open to holders of New City or West Nyack Library cards.

Call to reserve your time slot beginning one week before the event.

Old family photos, documents, and heirlooms are part of your family's past--learn how to plan ahead and keep these keepsakes safe for the future. Step by step, see how to organize, store, and analyse genealogy materials, decide what to retain and what to give to relatives and institutions, how to prepare a "genealogical will" for preserving your collection, and ideas for sharing family history with the next generation.

Marian Burk Wood is the author of the genealogy book "Planning a Future for Your Family’s Past." Copies wil be available for sale and signing following the presentation.

She is a popular speaker at genealogy clubs and conferences, demonstrating practical techniques for researching family trees and preserving family history for future generations. DNA Testing and Genealogy with Nora Galvin

What can a DNA test tell me? What does "autosomal DNA testing" mean? What can't it do for me? How accurate are DNA tests? Nora Galvin returns to continue lecturing on how DNA testing can be used for genealogy work. Bring your questions! Speaker Nora Galvin has a Bachelor of Science degree (Biology) from The Ohio State University and a Masters of Arts (Liberal Studies) from Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT. Her science background gives her the ability to combine DNA technology and conventional genealogical research and to help audiences understand the complexities of genetic genealogy.

This book club is for New City/West Nyack library members in grades K & 1. Each month, we will read a book during our meeting, make a craft related to the story and have a light snack. Children should be registered monthly for those sessions convenient for your family. Noone is pressured to read aloud or ever put on the spot and books do not need to be read beforehand. The goal of this program is to engage children with books so they enjoy reading. Hope to see you there!
