The unlikely tale of Amelia Bassano
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM

Set in Tudor England, this real-life story is all about an alluring and brilliant woman named Amelia Bassano who became Shakespeare's Dark Lady, and probably collaborated on his plays. How might our image of Shylock change to know that this woman was from a Crypto-Jewish Venetian family of musicians who had moved to London decades earlier to play at the court of Henry VIII and later, Queen Elizabeth. How might all this alter our thinking about "The Merchant of Venice," a play in which Bassano clearly had a hand? What might she have been trying to tell us?

This outdoor program is for kids in grades 1-4 who are interested in learning about our local wildlife, with an emphasis on birds.
