Improv for Kids!

Theater games are for anyone looking to improve confidence, gain focus, and add positivity into their daily life. While having fun and making new friends, children will improve their listening skills, collaborate with peers, and spark their imaginations. Sheri Ward leads this one-hour workshop helping children learn to unlock their inner creativity in a fun and supportive place.

Kids ages 6-12 years are invited to this free workshop. No experience is needed, but registration is required.

How to Prevent Aches While Reading

If you get aches, pains, or headaches while reading, then this program is for you! Join us as Dr. Jordan Rozich from Richland Chiropractic Center discusses and demonstrates the importance of proper reading ergonomics. This program will include ergonomic and postural tips to prevent aches and pains as well as ways you can minimize discomfort if it does occur. Registration is required.

Authors Night

The Friends of the Northern Tier Library are proud to present their annual Authors Night. The evening will feature four local authors:

Annette Dashofy has spent her entire life in rural Pennsylvania. She is the USA Today best-selling author of the Zoe Chambers mystery series. Her latest book, the eighth in the series, is Fair Game.

Abigail Drake writes women's fiction, young adult fiction, and blogs about her naughty Labrador, Capone. Her newest book, Love, Chocolate, & a Dog Named Al Capone, is set in Beaver.

Donald Firesmith lives in Crafton, Pennsylvania and writes modern paranormal fantasy and apocalyptic science fiction. He has authored seven technical books, but his foray into fiction includes The Secrets of Hawthorne House.

Kathleen George is a professor of theatre and writing at the University of Pittsburgh. She has a series of procedural thrillers set in Pittsburgh, as well as The Johnstown Girls, her historical fiction novel about the Johnstown Flood.

This program will be about an hour long, followed by a question and answer session with refreshments. The authors will have copies of their books for sale and available to sign. Registration is required.

The History of Pennsylvania as Told Through PA Books

Brian Lockman, President and CEO of the Pennsylvania Cable Network, has hosted more than 800 episodes of PCN's popular television show, PA Books.

For over 20 years, authors have appeared on the program to discuss their books covering the state's history, people, and culture. Starting with the first humans who lived here 16,000 years ago, to the New Sweden colony, through the American Revolution, to Gettysburg, to the Industrial Revolution and up to the present, Pennsylvania's rich story has been told by some of today's most prominent historians.

Please join Brian at Northern Tier Library as he shares some of his favorite books and stories from his 20 years of talking with authors. Attendees will get to hear about some lesser-known scenes from Pennsylvania's history.

Chef Carol Nardello has worked in restaurants, owned a catering business, collaborated on three cookbooks, and taught at three cooking schools. Most recently, while living in Hawaii, she worked as a Chef Instructor at the Culinary Institute of the Pacific. She and her husband now live in Wexford.

Classes are $40 each. If you register and pay for all three classes prior to September 10 (or when the class fills), the price will be discounted to $100 for the series.  No refunds can be issued for this program if a patron does not attend after submitting payment. There will be a limit of 20 attendees, so advance registration is required.

Pittsburgh Botanic Garden: A Story of Transformation

Pittsburgh Botanic Garden is a new botanic garden in Oakdale, just west of Pittsburgh. Join us to learn more about this unique resource and their transformation from an abandoned coal mine to a beautiful garden. This presentation will include a brief history of the garden, details on their ongoing land reclamation projects, and information on their programs. Enjoy a photographic tour of the garden and see how you can get involved. Registration is required.

Theater games are for anyone looking to improve confidence, gain focus, and add positivity into their daily life. While having fun and making new friends, children will improve their listening skills, collaborate with peers, and spark their imaginations. Sheri Ward leads this one-hour workshop helping children learn to unlock their inner creativity in a fun and supportive place.

The courses are for drivers 55 years of age or older, and the fee is $16 payable to Seniors for Safe Driving. Participants who complete the course, will receive a minimum five percent discount on their auto insurance as required by State law. Refresher courses are required every three years after the "first time" course. No exam will be given and the course is classroom instruction only.
