Makerspace Take-home Kit

Our Richland location will offer a take-home kit the last Monday of every month that can be picked up inside our lobby and enjoyed at home. Each kit will feature directions and supplies for the featured project.

Monday, September 27: Snake Knitting

Use recycled materials and craft sticks to create a mini knitting loom.

Please call or register online to reserve a take-home kit. Registration is required to account for supplies.

There are many spaces available.

The Weekly Project features a variety of activities that can be enjoyed from home such as cooking, crafting, art, and STEM. Each week will showcase a different take-home project for children to work on with their families. This program is for kids of all ages. This program is an outside event located on our side lawn (behind the library's book drops), and is weather permitting. We ask families to bring a blanket or camping chair for somewhere to sit, and a rattle or noise making toy to play along with our music. Because this is a children's program, masks will be required when around others. Registration is required.

  • Green Beans with Tomato-Caper Sauce
  • Sticky Toffee Pudding & Whipped Cream

Classes are $40 each. If you register and pay for all three classes prior to Monday, September 27 (or when the class fills), the price will be discounted to $100 for the series.

Please note that adjustments may be made to this program (and if needed, cancelation) in regards to everyone's safety.

An Evening of Richland History
6:45 PM - 8:45 PM

The History & Landmarks Society of Richland AC presents An Evening of Richland History at Northern Tier Regional Library starting at 6:45 PM (first presenter at 7:00 PM sharp). This special evening will feature three 20-30 minute presentations about historic Richland Township sites.

Paul Becker, Senior Pastor at First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown, will present the rich history of this 150-year-old church, which has spawned numerous ministries in our area.

Larry Bracco, long-time Executive Director of the Pine-Richland Youth Center will present the history of the Center, founded in 1950 as the Richland Youth Foundation and serving area youth for 71 years.

Cono Passione of the History & Landmarks Society of Richland AC, and recent restorer of the Bakerstown Cemetery, will talk about this historic and mysterious cemetery which was established in 1826 by Thomas Baker as the Charlestown Cemetery. 

This program will be limited to 40 attendees, and registration is required. All attendees must wear masks.

Fall Bulb Planting Take-Home Kit

For a beautiful spring display, plant your bulbs in the fall!

Sandy Csikari, 20 year Master Gardener, will share instructions and tips on how you can best plant and care for bulbs in your garden. Request one of our take-home kits to receive an informational packet from Sandy, as well as your own bulbs to plant.

Thank you to our friends at Home Depot for their donation to this program. Registration is required, and take-home kits will be available for lobby pickup on Tuesday, October 12. There is a limit of one kit per family.

Natureology
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

"Birds"

Did you know that birds are descended from dinosaurs? These amazing creatures fly, swim, and decorate our neighborhoods with brilliant colors. Learn more about the beautiful birds all around us with Tony at Natureology.

This is an outdoor program, so we encourage attendants to bring a camping chair or blanket to sit on. If there's rain, the program will be rescheduled for the following day at the same time. 

This program will be limited to 40 attendees, and registration is required. All attendees must wear masks.

Blue Mist Road: Fact and Fiction
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Blue Mist Road. Every year at Halloween this barely traveled road on the edge of North Park leaps into prominence. What started as a local story is commonly listed as one of Pittsburgh's most haunted sites, and has been featured in publications such as Weird Pennsylvania.

Just a brief online search, or visit to Reddit, provides a sampling of stories. But what is true, and what is legend? Join Northern Tier Library as we examine the tall tales of Blue Mist Road.
