“Some women prefer to stay at home and take care of the house.  Let them.  There are plenty who like that kind of work enough to do it.  Others want something to do that will take them out among people and affairs.  A woman should have the right to do any sort of work she wants to, provided that she can do it.”  Constance Amelie Kopp, 1914

In Girl Waits with Gun, Amy Stewart breathes life into the true story of Constance Kopp, one of America’s first female deputy sheriffs.  When the novel begins, Constance is living a quiet life in the country with her two sisters.  When a ruthless factory owner destroys their buggy, a dispute over damages escalates into a life-threatening situation.  Constance, bigger than the average man and not interested in love or marriage, refuses to act like a woman and takes matters into her own hands.

The Wines of Autumn
7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The Wines of Autumn

Celebrate the Autumnal Equinox with a special wine tasting, hosted by John Eld.  In the vineyard, fall is the culmination of the year.  All the cultivating, pruning, and careful care result in the bountiful harvest of the grapes.  This is the time of year to enjoy wines of color, with richer, smoky flavors.  Pinot noir, petite sirah, malbec, and even rose are some of the wines we may sample, with complementary food pairings.

The Wines of Autumn will be held on Friday, September 22 at 7:00 PM.  The cost is $35 per person, and advance registration is required.

Because this fundraiser is during September, your ticket sale will entitle the library to a pro-rated match from the Jack Buncher Foundation.  Thank you!
