Kids (and adults!) of all ages are invited to create and enjoy crafts on Monday afternoons, beginning at 2:00 PM. This is a drop-in program and will last until supplies run out.

Zumba
6:30 PM - 7:15 PM

Zumba is a strong cardio and muscular workout, incorporating dances such as merengue, salsa, hip hop, and belly dancing. Classes will be held on Mondays, April 8-May 20. A fee of $35 is charged for the series if paid in advance prior to the first class, or you can pay as you go at $7 per class. The fee must be paid at the time of registration.

Come and enjoy a half hour of fun with your baby! We'll share songs, finger plays, stories, and rhymes. Meet other parents and their babies, and enjoy some special time together. This program is intended for babies ages 0-18 months old (siblings welcome!) and will be held on Tuesdays, April 23-May 28, except for Tuesday, May 21 because of Election Day. Registration is required.

There are many spaces available.

Registration is required, in person or by telephone. Please include the specific topics you need assistance with during registration.

Adult Battle of the Books

Come join the fun! The Northern Tier Library, along with eight other libraries in Northern Allegheny County, will participate in a Battle of the Books this spring. Read books and battle other teams with your knowledge! Who remembers the most? Who has the best team name? Who will pull one out in the clutch to win the bonus round?

The rules are simple:

  • Form a team of 3-5 members and pick a team name.
  • Register online at battleofthenorth.com, and pay the $25 per team entrance fee. Registration opens on Friday, February 15.
  • Start reading the books! (Request a copy at your library!) This year's books are:

How to Prevent Aches While Reading

If you get aches, pains, or headaches while reading, then this program is for you! Join us as Dr. Jordan Rozich from Richland Chiropractic Center discusses and demonstrates the importance of proper reading ergonomics. This program will include ergonomic and postural tips to prevent aches and pains as well as ways you can minimize discomfort if it does occur. Registration is required.

American Board, formerly known as American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE), is a National nonprofit organization created by the Department of Education in 2001 as an alternative path to teacher certification for working professionals. Each state partners with one or two univerisites in a specific area. The Pittsburgh area works with Point Park University.

Join us to learn more information about American Board, and how their program enables anyone with a bachelor's degree, in any area, to obtain their teaching certification in a faster and more economical way.

Common Backyard Birds

Want to attract birds to your yard but don't know how to begin? Join award-winning bird photographer and author, Doris Dumrauf, as she shares her knowledge and photos of the most common bird species in western Pennsylvania.

Learn more about bird identification, food preferences, and habitats. Many of her photo subjects were found in her own yard, a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat. After her presentation, Doris will have autographed copies of her books, Create Your Own Backyard Wildlife Habitat and Common Backyard Birds for sale.

Bridget's Book Club

In White Houses, novelist Amy Bloom explores the relationship between Eleanor Roosevelt and reporter Lorena Hickok. Told from Hickok's point of view, the story alternates between April 1945, shortly after Franklin Roosevelt's death, to 1932, when Eleanor and Hickok met on the campaign trail. When FDR took office, Hickok joined his staff and resided in the White House as "first friend" for the next 12 years. Join Bridget's Book Club for our discussion.

Get together with other gardeners to talk, trade, and have a good time! Bring at least two perennials - one to trade, and one to donate to our sale. This is a great way to add new plants to your garden without spending any money. Refreshments will be served, and registration is required.

Zumba

Zumba is a strong cardio and muscular workout, incorporating dances such as merengue, salsa, hip hop, and belly dancing. Classes will be held on Mondays, April 8-May 20. A fee of $35 is charged for the series if paid in advance prior to the first class, or you can pay as you go at $7 per class. The fee must be paid at the time of registration.

Theater games are for anyone looking to improve confidence, gain focus, and add positivity into their daily life. While having fun and making new friends, children will improve their listening skills, collaborate with peers, and spark their imaginations. Sheri Ward leads this one-hour workshop helping children learn to unlock their inner creativity in a fun and supportive place.

Kids ages 6-12 years are invited to this free workshop. No experience is needed, but registration is required.

The courses are for drivers 55 years of age or older, and the fee is $16 payable to Seniors for Safe Driving. Participants who complete the course, will receive a minimum five percent discount on their auto insurance as required by State law. Refresher courses are required every three years after the "first time" course. No exam will be given and the course is classroom instruction only.
