Fresh Air Story & Playtime
10:30 AM - 11:00 AM

Join us Thursday mornings, September 8-October 13 on the library's side lawn behind the book drops! We ask families to bring a blanket or camping chair to sit on the grass. We also encourage families to bring rattles or noise-making toys to play along with the music, although we'll have some to lend as well.

We'll share songs, rhymes, and books! Families will take home an activity kit or craft each week. In case of bad weather, we'll host the story time in the library's upstairs program room.

This series is for toddlers, preschoolers, and their families. Please let us know you're coming by registering for each date you plan to attend.

There are many spaces available.

Zumba

Zumba is a strong cardio and muscular workout, incorporating dances such as merengue, salsa, hip hop, and belly dancing. Classes will be held on Mondays, October 3-November 21. A fee of $55 is charged for the series if paid in advance prior to the first class, or you can pay as you go at $9 per class. The fee must be paid at the time of registration.

Millie's Ice Cream
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

Join a representative from Millie's Wexford and Millie's Ice Cream Works at Northern Tier Library for an hour-long presentation. It is sure to be a sweet evening with discussion about how Millie's came to be, the ice cream making process, and flavor development. We will also serve ice cream samples at the end, so be sure to stick around! Let us know if you are coming, pretty please, with a cherry on top.

Take-home Crafts

Kids (and adults!) of all ages are invited to create and enjoy a simple, weekly take-home craft! Please call or register online to reserve a weekly supply kit that can be picked up on Tuesdays and enjoyed at home. This program will run from September 6-October 11. Registration is required each week to account for supplies

The Weekly Project

Welcome to The Weekly Project, a program featuring a variety of activities that can be enjoyed from home like cooking, crafting, art, and STEM. Each week will showcase a different project for children to work on with their families, and will include take-home materials. This program will have a six-week session that runs from September 6-October 11; and is for kids of all ages. Registration is required each week to account for supplies.

Natureology
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM

"Serengeti Sunrise"

Imagine one million wildebeest and zebra roaming a giant, yearly circle around a grass-filled wilderness. Lions, leopards, and cheetahs, accompanied by hyenas and wild dogs also roam, looking for their next meal. While elephants, giraffes, and ostriches try to stay out of the way. We'll try to stay out of the way too, as we watch these animals roam at Natureology with Tony Palermo. This program is for children of all ages, and registration is required.

Classes are $40 each. If you register and pay for all three classes prior to Tuesday, September 6 (or when the class fills), the price will be discounted to $100 for the series.

There will be a limit of 25 attendees, so advance registration and payment is required. Please note that adjustments may be made (and if needed, cancelation) in regards to everyone's safety.

A clothing swap is when you have the opportunity to bring in gently used clothing that either does not fit anymore or you no longer want. Here you can swap pieces of clothing to find a new outfit and give life to old outfits. This swap supports sustainability in fashion and is a great opportunity for you to freshen up your fall wardrobe!

Bridget's Book Club

Everyone knows the name of Jack the Ripper, although the mystery of who he actually was has not been solved for more than a century. But can you name any one of the women who died at his hands? Or even what was the total number of victims? 

In honor of Halloween, our book club will venture in a new direction as we meet to discuss The Five: the Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper by Hallie Rubenhold. This book is the winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize for nonfiction and of the Goodreads Choice Award for History & Biography. In this gripping narrative of the five "canonical" victims, Rubenhold gives these women back their stories. Please join us for an interesting discussion.

Evening Yoga Flow Class
6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

UPDATE: This program will not be outside, it will be held inside the library in the program room on the main level.

End your day with a gentle outdoor vinyasa yoga flow class designed to calm the mind and prepare your body for deep rest. You will move mindfully in a straightforward flow with some longer holds, gentle twists, hip openers, and forward folds to burn off any excess energy from the day. This class taught by Sheri Ward will allow you to wind down the body and relax your mind for a restful evening. No fancy yoga pants or previous experience required. Come comfortable and ready to stretch.

There is a fee for this class of $9 that will be charged upon registration. Advance registration is required.

About Sheri Ward: Sheri received her 200-Hour yoga teacher training certificate from My Vinyasa Practice located in Austin, Texas. She specializes in Vinyasa yoga classes and is currently a member of Yoga Alliance. Sheri believes that Yoga Is For All. In her class, you can expect to move, breathe, smile, and find confidence to apply to life on and off the mat.

An Evening with Local Author Dr. Ryan Utz

The Friends of Northern Tier Library proudly welcome Dr. Ryan Utz (Pine-Richland graduate class of 1999) for an evening reviewing and enjoying his recently published book Field Guide to Rivers & Streams: Discovering Running Waters and Aquatic Life.

Prior to joining Chatham University in 2015, Dr. Utz served four years as an aquatic ecologist at the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON). As an environmental aquatic ecologist, his studies focus on urban streams, ecological restoration, and detecting environmental trends.

If you are an avid outdoor person or just want to learn the names of those things wiggling in and flying around the "crick" while you are fishing, you will want to join us. A reception with refreshments and book signing will follow Dr. Utz's presentation. Registration is required.

Its roots stem back thousands of years, tracing back all the way to the Aztecs. Traditionally celebrated on November 1 & 2, millions of people come together to enjoy this holiday in the Americas. Join us on the Day of the Dead for different crafts and activities to dive into this cherished holiday!
